Random Crashes...

Hi all, hopefully someone can help me here as I'm at a dead end trying to determine what's causing my PC to crash randomly.

Running Windows 10 - V1909 Build 18363.836

It just crashes randomly... sometimes it will run fine for days, even under heavy load doing Adobe Photoshop, graphics, Premier Video Editing... and then, when I close everything down, but leave the PC running, it will decide to crash at 3am when I haven't been using it for hours.

Even on fresh re-boots, I don't even log in, and it crashes hours later.

BIOS/UEFI version 4701 dates from 2014
Please visit the Asus support site for your motherboard and see:
- if there is an updated, stable BIOS/UEFI available. If so, please update to it.
- check to be sure that the Asus supports Windows 10 on this motherboard (due to it's age)

And, as long as you're at the Asus site, take this opportunity to check for updates to your chipset and other drivers/utilities.
Quite a few of the Asus and Intel utilities are outdated (seen in the memory dumps)

Please manually check Windows Update to ensure that you have ALL available Windows Updates

2 of the 5 uploaded memory dumps blame "hardware_disk".
I suggest running Seagate's Seatools for Windows (the long/extended test) on each drive: SeaTools for Windows |

As both drives are SSD's, the tests should go rather fast.
Unfortunately, the tests for SSD's aren't nearly as accurate as those for the old-style HDD's.
I suggest:
- ensuring that the firmware is fully updated on each SSD
- disconnect the drive (both data and power cables) that's not used for Windows - and see if that stops the problems.

Here's a list of the 3rd party drivers that were present in the memory dump, and that are older and in need of updating/uninstallation. These drivers must either have their software updated to stable, Windows 10 versions, or the software associated with them must be uninstalled (ensuring that the drivers are uninstalled also):

I suspect that this is an Intel PCIe Gigabit Ethernet driver.

Downloaded the full 25.1 Intel Network pack, and on installation is errors out with "Cannot install drivers. No Intel Adapters are present".

However, you have the latest LAN card drivers because I checked, the newer ones will not be installed. In that case, update the Intel Rapid Storage driver - Downloads for Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology (Intel(R) RST)

Cheers So much for your detailed response/analysis.

I've got a slightly newer bios (still from 2014 though)

Most of the Asus Drivers are all really old, and some I have updated from elsewhere.

I've got the latest Drive firmware, and scanning them all looks good.

I've just done a newer IAstorA.sys driver (by getting the intel floppy driver - as the Rapid storage technology software wouldn't install... in fact, the intel driver & Support assistant doesn't find anything to update or even detect intel things in my system....so I've uninstalled intel RST completely, as the new IAstorA.sys stopped it from running.

With that PXHlpa64.sys... how do I find what software is using that? and how do I delete/upgrade it? only thing I can think that may be using it is iTunes?

Most of the other drivers etc, I can't seem to find newer ones at all, and ones I do find don't seem to install.

Anyway, we'll see how the system goes now I've updated the IAStorA.sys, and bios update.

If you can't get newer drivers, then I'd have to suspect that the system just isn't compatible w/Windows 10 - despite Asus offering some drivers for W10 on this board.
If that's the case, you'll continue to see problems no matter what we do - and they problems should get worse as time goes on.

To test for compatibility issues is a bit difficult.
1) The surest way is to first test with a clean install of the OS that the system/motherboard was designed for - then test to see if the problems occur there. The mobo was released in 2011, so it's most likely that it was designed for Windows 7 (from a web search).
2) Then, perform a clean install of the latest Windows 10 build and test to see if the problems come back.

As bad as all this sounds, we'll continue to work on helping get this system to work well with Windows 10.
So, here's some suggestions:

Try this Realtek site for new audio drivers: PC Audio Codecs > High Definition Audio Codecs Software - REALTEK

You may want to try the Intel Driver & Support Assitant software to try to update the Intel stuff on your system:
Intel(R) Driver & Support Assistant Dunno if it'll help, but it's worth a try!

Too many developers used the PxHlpa64.sys driver for us to know which program uses it (and I'm not sure how to go about figuring it out on your system). But that's OK - this driver (even though it's very old) is actually pretty stable. Also, if it does continue to pop up in the dumps, we can manually remove it (but we're not at that point yet).
