BSODs Even after doing a system reset

    Hello,

For maybe around a month now, I have been having constant BSODs and attempting to fix it myself hasn't been very productive. Note: These BSODs only occur whenever I play a game, mainly Monster Hunter: World.

I've tried doing a windows restore using a flashdrive, and I also have used the "reset this PC" under the recovery options and chose to remove everything. I have also tried reinstalling my graphics driver. I ran memtest86 for 4 passes, I'll likely run it again for a longer duration. Using Crystal Disk Info, I found that there is exactly one raw value of current pending sector count and one raw value of uncorrectable sector count. Not sure if that is potentially related, but I included it anyways.

Before I reset the PC, the most common stop code was System_Thread_Exception_Not_Handled, and after reset the most common is KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE. I am running Windows 10 1909 OS Build 18363.778. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi MechaTactical,

Welcome to the Ten Forums BSOD forum.

Some steps / test that were done may be repeated.

Please make sure images are posted for all steps / tests:

    Take Screenshot in Windows 10
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...re-screenshots
How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums

    1) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    2) sfc /scannow
    3) dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
    4) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    5) sfc /scannow
    6) chkdsk /scan
    7) wmic recoveros set autoreboot = false
    8) wmic recoveros set DebugInfoType = 7
    9) wmic recoveros get autoreboot
    10) wmic recoveros get DebugInfoType
    11) bcdedit /enum {badmemory}

    12) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

    13) Make sure that there is no over clocking while troubleshooting

    14) In the left lower corner search type: system or system control > open system control panel > on the left pane click advanced system settings

    a) > on the advanced tab under startup and recovery > click settings > post an image of the startup and recovery window into the thread

    b) > on the advanced tab under performance > click on settings > on the performance options window > click on the advanced tab > under virtual memory > click on change > post an image of the virtual memory window into the thread

    15) Run memtest86+ version 5.01 for at least 8 passes.
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
This may take hours so plan to run it overnight.

    a) Please make sure you use the Memtest86+ version 5.01 with the link below.
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

The testing is done not by time but by passes.
The more passes the better the testing conditions.
There are a significant number of false negatives if fewer than 8 passes are made.
A false negative is a test pass when there is malfunctioning RAM.
There is 8 GB of RAM on the computer.
    Memtest86+ version 5.01 testing takes approximately 1 - 2 hours /GB RAM
Just 1 error is a fail and you can abort testing.
Then test 1 RAM module at a time in the same DIMM each for 8 or more passes.

    b) When Memtest86+ version 5.01 has completed 8 or more passes use a camera or smart phone camera to take a picture and post an image into the thread.

    16) Turn off Windows fast startup:
Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 10

    17) Update the specs in the "My Computer' section:

System Specs - Fill in at Ten Forums
In the left corner below in your post you find 'My System Specs'.
After clicking it you can find a link a little below that says 'Update your System Spec', click on this link to get to the page where you can fill in your system specs.
System Info - See Your System Specs - Windows 7 Help Forums

Include PSU. cooler, case, peripherals and anything attached to the computer by wired or wireless (mouse, keyboard, headset, printer, xbox, USB wireless network card, etc.)

    18) Run HD Tune (free version) (all drives)
    https://www.hdtune.com/
Post images into the thread for results on these tabs:
    a) Health
    b) Benchmark
    c) Full error scan

    19) Run Sea Tools for Windows
    long generic test
Post an image of the test result into the thread

    Hello zbook,

I appreciate your response. I will try to get memtest86+ working tomorrow. In regards to the HDD, how crucial is it that I replace the drive with the damaged block? Do you think that is the primary cause for the BSODs?

    Thanks,

The single bad block is the minor problem.
The main problem is the long generic failure.
The long generic failure is a similar test to what computer manufacturers use for warranty replacement.

Drives can be used after displayed problems as long as you have backed up files.
Drives with test problems can have performance problems (slow read and write, unexpected shutdowns and restarts, BSOD, failure to boot, etc.) before the terminal event.

In order to best rule in and rule out the cause of BSOD, any malfunctioning harDware needs to be swapped or replaced.

    Hello zbook,

Sorry for the radio static. I decided to put off trying to fix the computer as for some reason memtest86+ just absolutely refused to boot from flash drive, even after disabling fast boot and following the instructions given. I'm planning on replacing the hard drive very soon, but before I do is there any other possible components I need to test for based on the data I've sent so far? Also, how do I know what hard drive to purchase and how do I know if it's compatible with my desktop? What steps should I take before replacing the hard drive?

    Thanks,
    MechaTactical

    This software has a similar name but is an alternative;

Run Memtest86 version 8.4 (or newer version if available) for four passes.
Repeat the test so that eight passes are performed.

Use a camera or smart phone camera to take pictures and post images into the thread.
In case there are any problems uploading images use share links (one drive, drop box, or google drive)

Memtest86 has a feature to produce a text report.
Please post this in addition to the images.
