Windows 10 freeze, system hang up

    Hello there,

I've got a brand new, whole computer bought in the past week, and I have some weird crahes one in a while. It happens mostly 2-3 times a week, and pretty annoying.

Once it happened when I started a game, then it happened when I used Alt + Tab.

I am linking the dump files required, please help me break down the problem. -> I use the latest drivers, tried to reinstall them, and my comp had been memory and GPU tested.

    System specifications:

    · OS - Windows 10 - 1909 version, OS build: 18363.778
    · It is a 64 bit system.
    · The OS is a full retail version
    · The computer is 2-3 weeks old
    · The OS is 2-3 weeks old, havent reinstalled it yet.

    · It's a PC:
    · CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.60GHz AM4 BOX Wraith Prism RGB LED cooler
    · Video Card: SAPPHIRE 11293-03-40G RX 5700 XT 8GB GDDR6 NITRO+ PCIE (ö1)
    · MotherBoard: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX (ö1)
    · Power Supply - brand & wattage: CORSAIR RMi Series RM650i 650W (ö1)

    · Memory: 2x HyperX 16GB Fury RGB DDR4 3733MHz CL19 HX437C19FB3A/16 (ö1)

Sadly the last crash didn't create a dump file, here are the information from event viewer:

    Event name: LiveKernelEvent
    Code: 193
    1. parameter: 810
    2. parameter: 0
    3. parameter: 0
    4. parameter: 0
    OS version: 10_0_18363
    Service pack: 0_0
    Product: 768_1
    OS version 10.0.18363.2.0.0.768.101
    Local ID: 1038

Any help is appreciated, I am kinda curious if it's a hardware defect?? or possibly a driver.

PS.: is it possible that an external hardware is causing it to crash? (mouse, keyboard, headset, audio device? -> my last computer had crashes as well, but everything is new apart from these hardwares)

    Attachment 276647

    Thanks!

I did download and use this AMD chipset driver: AMD Chipset Driver, Version: 19.10.36 (date: 2020-04-16) Support For B450 TOMAHAWK MAX | Motherboard - The world leader in motherboard design | MSI Global

I am unsure if what you are linking if newer: AMD Chipset Drivers, Revision Number: 2.04.04.111 (date: 2020-04-07)

2 memory dumps in attached reports, only 1 ran successfully (video issue reported)
    Error Report folder shows 4 different Kernel errors (1aB, 113, 193, A0)
I suspect a hardware problem - and I suspect the video because of the results of the dump file analysis.

    I suggest:
    - testing with Furmark ( FurMark > Home ). Make sure the you monitor the temps while running this - it can drastically overheat your graphics card!!!
    - using good anti-static precautions, remove the video card, clean out the slot with canned air, carefull reseat the video card and all cables. Then test for BSOD again.
    - lastly, consider contacting the seller of the video card for a replacement under warranty.

Yes, im gonna do the furmark test soon. I suspect the video as well, but im unsure if its hardware or software. After brief google-ing, I found that the AMD drivers tend to crash these days, thats why I hoped that the dump files will show something about the drivers.

These are simply newer drivers for the AMD chipset so they will work with your motherboard (OEM just don't always care about updating drivers for anything, they only care about BIOS updates as they are at all)

Thank you. I did install a new windows update, and downloaded the AMD chipset driver you linked. Also updated BIOS.

Now I am going to use heaven/valley to test GPU, hopefully it wont crash -> I will let you know if anything comes up. Im hoping for driver issues, and not hardware ones :)

    - - - Updated - - -

    Update:

So far what I did since posting:
    - BIOS update
    - AMD chipset driver update
    - Windows update (it was updated tho, 1 update came out since last week)
    - Used heaven stress test on ultra settings, 5-6 benchmark cycles -> 73-75 °C and no crash/BSOD whatsoever.

It is hard to conclude anything, but I will continue to test it and will update this post if anything is happening.

Other: is there anyhing useful from the dump files? other than its probably GPU? -> any driver issue?

Each different stress test stresses the GPU differently. AFAIK, there's no single stress test that will test the entire video card reliably. In short, if it crashes during stress testing - there's a problem. If it doesn't crash - that doesn't mean there isn't a problem

OTOH - seeing that the temps only went to the mid-70's during stress testing is a good indicator that the cooling solution for the video card is working well.

Here's the info from the memory dump:

Earlier you mentioned external devices. Do you have any external devices that use video? If so, what are they?

You can try to uninstall the video drivers with DDU: Official Display Driver Uninstaller DDU Download
Then install a freshly downloaded version of the latest AMD video drivers for your video card

You can, using good antistatic precautions, remove the video card
Then blow out the slot with canned air
Then carefully reseat the card and any cables that go to it

You can try another video card.
If you don't have another card, and this one is under warranty - try returning it for another.
If it's not under warranty, see if you purchase one from a shop that'll let you return it for your money back.

By external devices I only meant the regular hardwares - mouse, keyboard, audio device, headset :) -> these are the only thing that remaind the same since the new config.

I will clean the slot, but cannot really replace the card for now - since the crashes occur in 1-2 days, Ill just wait for another crash -> new dump files, driver reinstalls and stuff. I belive it's a step-by-step, take your time testing.

For the time being, disconnect the external audio card and uninstall it's software (I presume it's USB).
These devices are finicky and their drivers aren't the most stable.
After you're done with testing/fixing the BSOD's - feel free to reinstall it.
