think you have an option for command prompt.....if so could try some repair commands......sfc /scannow
think you have an option for command prompt.....if so could try some repair commands......sfc /scannow
some other commands you can try....
all else fails you can run repair commands to fix the boot record
with bootrec.exe
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /fixboot
bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd
not sure if bootrec /fixmbr is meant to be bootrec.exe. etc or if the others should have .exe omitted.....getting out of my depth......searching on google for you

apparently its
Bootrec /fixMBR
bootrec /fixBoot
bootrec /rebuildBCD
Then back into the auto repair
another thought is if you can't get it to boot into safe mode.....F8 no longer available in windows 10.....to recover any data if you decide to start again.....then burn a Linux disk and run LIVE do not install, this will give you access to your HDD folders an external HDD or USB pen
windows.old is the old files left over after you upgraded to windows 10, the first thing I do when upgrading an OS is delete these....wasn't easy with windows 10.....had to research it and use windows cleanup and eventually it had the option to delete windows old.....I would say you don't need windows.old but it should just be a folder.....do you have any data you need to get off. is it just programs apps etc.....if you want to get any data music pictures or docs use the Linux live Cd and run as live DO NOT INSTALL and back up all your data, might be a good time to do this.....if you have nothing of importance and can reinstall any apps then chose to delete windows.old.....you have to be a rocket scientist to work with windows nowadays....
