    The CMOS is very inexpensive.
Please replace it as a trial and error step.

Iím not sure what you mean. Do you mean the battery? I was also planning to take the metal cover off and look for the jumper. Should I do that first?

Well, I tested the battery with a volt meter and its 3.15 volts so it should be good. As you know, I removed it. I also found the jumper position to clear CMOS and tried that but still to no avail. I think I am ready to give up. The fan runs so the CPU must be active and I hear the optical drive head move at power on but that's it. completely dead!

Do you have any other ideas or should I give up??!!

Open a new thread in the general support room: "Troubleshoot booting to BIOS or Windows"

There may be others with troubleshooting ideas.

Testing a CMOS battery with a voltmeter is not a good test as it doesn't put a load on the battery. They cost around $2.00, replace it.

    Thanks Zbook!

Thank you for all your help. I have created the other thread as you suggested.

    Ok Rich/Ztruker,

I can do that. What does the cmos battery do? I just thought it kept the contents of memory and that removing the battery and moving the jumpers had reset everything. Does it need a good battery in order to boot?

If the CMOS battery is not at a sufficient voltage to maintain settings then strange things can happen. Replacing it may not make any difference at all but for $2 (or so) it's worth a shot.
