Laptop Has No Legs Anymore - Laggy!

Hi,

I'm not sure where to start with this, and whether this is in the right forum, but I'm in self-isolation, my girlfriend is 38 weeks pregnant and I'm being forced to watch my business crumble from under my feet because of the C-word.

But anyway, enough about me.

About 3 weeks ago, my laptop suffered a host load of BSODs in succession - from searching Google, it appears they were all driver & memory-related. Anyway, I did what I thought was right and updated all of my drivers etc and that seems to have fixed the screen of deaths, at least.

The issue I have now is that my laptop is painfully slow. Not excruciatingly, but enough to make certain tasks like using Photoshop and playing Football Manager 2020 painful (I have asked in their respective forums with no joy). I am running Windows 10, Version 1909 (OS Build 18363.720)

I have done everything that I thought was possible to try and resolve this.

Updated Windows, drivers, graphic cards, removed malware, performed healthchecks - you name it.

I'm at a lose end, and need my laptop back up and firing to help with my motivation.

Can anybody help - please?

When were the approximate dates each RAM module was installed?

The logs displayed that Windows driver verifier is still on.
There are often performance problems and slow boot while running this tool.

Please perform the following steps:

1) Turn off Windows driver verifier

2) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
3) sfc /scannow
4) dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
5) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
6) sfc /scannow
7) chkdsk /scan
8) wmic recoveros set autoreboot = false
9) wmic recoveros set DebugInfoType = 7
10) wmic recoveros get autoreboot
11) wmic recoveros get DebugInfoType
12) bcdedit /enum {badmemory}

13) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

14) Make sure that there is no over clocking while troubleshooting


15) In the left lower corner search type: system or system control > open system control panel > on the left pane click advanced system settings

a) > on the advanced tab under startup and recovery > click settings > post an image of the startup and recovery window into the thread

b) > on the advanced tab under performance > click on settings > on the performance options window > click on the advanced tab > under virtual memory > click on change > post an image of the virtual memory window into the thread

16) Open Ccleaner > click windows tab or custom clean > scroll down to system and advanced > post an image into the thread

17) For any BSOD:

a) run the V2 log collector to collect new log files

b) open file explorer> this PC > C: > in the right upper corner search for: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
> if the file size is < 1.5 GB then zip > post a separate share link into the thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive

Hi Zbook, thank you for the thorough response and it's great to be here.

Before we start, I have trawled the web to see how to disable the windows driver verifier, but I'm getting quite a few conflicting responses - do you recommend a particular, safe way?

The additional 8gb RAM was installed roughly mid-October, 2019.

Sorry for jumping from one conversation to another.

Would you suggest removing the stick of RAM I purchased directly from Crucial? They stated on the website it would be a direct upgrade for my specific laptop, too.

For Ccleaner uncheck:
a) Memory Dumps
b) Windows Log files

Crucial typically guarantees compatibility.
So keep the RAM modules installed.

This may take hours to run so plan to run overnight.
Run on all drives using the syntax: chkdsk /r /v C: or chkdsk /r /v D: changing the drive letter to the applicable drive.

2) Use the information in this link to find the chkdsk report in the event viewer. Copy and paste into notepad > save to desktop > post into the thread using one drive or drop box share link:

Wow, since disabling the driver verifier that has instantly fixed the speed issue I was having, especially within a certain game I like to play in my downtime.

Would you still suggest I run your post above - the chkdsk overnight?
