So I've noticed that 3 of the drives that had long generic fails, and that also say they have CRC errors which could be due to faulty cables, are all on the same PCI SATA card. I'm wondering could the card itself have an issue.

I've had a fair bit of trouble finding PCI SATA cards that worked in this machine and this was one of the few that did so it would be a shame to have to replace it.

Or maybe it's the driver you mentioned early in this thread. I'll have to try and see if there's a newer driver for it somewhere.

When troubleshooting WHEA 0x124 it is the process of elimination.
All major hardware components are checked: CPU, GPU, Drives, and RAM
There is no universal test for motherboards.
Often software tests may not find malfunctioning hardware.
Swapping hardware components may be necessary to find the malfunctioning hardware.

For any drive that you want to double check:
    a) insert the drive in an empty bay of another computer
    b) use a HD enclosure
    c) choose one of the above and repeat the testing

Yes good idea I'll try some of them in my external sata connector tonight!

Okay....I was trying one of my bigger drives in the enclosure but it wouldn't seem to recognise it. It may not have provided enough power.

But when I turned the machine back on it kept blue screening while starting windows as I was moving the mouse around.

Repeated this several times and then left it to sit and start without moving the mouse around and it starts fine....

Safe mode may decrease the frequency of BSOD giving sufficient time to run the tests.
Shift + restart or steps in this link:

When you complete the drive testing other hardware components can be tested.

    1) Chkdsk:

    G:
    Code:
Adding 2 bad clusters to the Bad Clusters File.
Correcting errors in the Volume Bitmap.

    C:
    Code:
Correcting errors in the Volume Bitmap.

    2) Choose one of the temperature monitoring software applications: Speecy, HW monitor, Speed fan:
Speccy - Free Download - Piriform: Speccy - System Information - Free
Download Speccy | Find your computer specs, free!

    3) Hardware testing is best when other problematic or potentially problematic hardware have been removed.
If possible run the tests with only the C: drive attached.
    The BIOS should be reset.
Please post images for all test results.
Text reports are in addition to the image results.

    4) Run Prime95 - Stress Test Your CPU

Prime95 - Stress Test Your CPU
    a) Record the maximum temperature and post the maximum temperature into the thread
    b) Record test duration and post the uninterrupted test duration into the thread
    c) Aim for testing > 3 hrs and abort testing as needed for freezing, temperature changes (see link)
    d) Use the Microsoft snipping tool to post images into the thread.

    5) Run Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool (IPDT)
    Download Intel(R) Processor Diagnostic Tool

    6) Run Memtest86 version 8.3 (or newer version if available) for four passes.
Repeat the test so that eight passes are performed.

Use a camera or smart phone camera to take pictures and post images into the thread.
In case there are any problems uploading images use share links (one drive, drop box, or google drive)

Memtest86 has a feature to produce a text report.
Please post this in addition to the images.

    7) Run FurMark - GPU Stress Test Windows 10 Performance Maintenance Tutorials

    8) Test PSU
    https://www.ocbase.com/

    9) All of these tests should be done with the bios reset and no over clocking.

    10) For each of the above tests please record maximum temperatures.

    11) For any BSOD:

    a) run the V2 log collector to collect new log files

    b) open file explorer> this PC > C: > in the right upper corner search for: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
    > if the file size is < 1.5 GB then zip > post a separate share link into the thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive
