DMA access violation is constantly detected by IOMMU (Input–output memory management unit - Wikipedia). If you turn it off for a trial then Driver Verifier should detect a DMA access violation and then it should already detect a faulty driver that is incorrectly trying to get DMA

Ok. would you like me to try and make it crash and BSOD again now that I have disabled IOMMU?

HDTune for now, health was blank for all drives

I will also use the ssd version of seatools for my C drive but I think the issue is definitely with my WD external so I'll do that one first.

For SMART won't one or more drives display results?

If there are no HD Tune Health results then the SMART may not be supported.

Double or triple check by testing with each:

Run HD Sentinel: (free or trial edition)
Hard Disk Sentinel - HDD health and temperature monitoring
Hard Disk Sentinel - HDD health and temperature monitoring
Post images of each of these tabs into the thread:
    Overview tab
    Temperature
    SMART
    Disk performance

    Crystal Disk standard edition:
    CrystalDiskInfo – Crystal Dew World

    Do you still notice BSODs?

it's strange, everything is ticked in the supported features in the Info tab, but the health tab is empty and there's no button to do a scan or something.

I did seatools on the 5tb and it came back pass. didn't get a screenshot though.

going to try and do the bsod for MrPepka again now

It is unclear to me whether there is a problem with this Laptop when Driver Verifier is turned off. Can the OP confirm if he has tested this and whether there are BSODs under normal operation?

driver verififer isn't usually on and I don't routinely get BSODs. I've had the odd one but everyone has.

This one is repeatable though when copying to this new HDD with verifier on AND off.. I'm about to turn driver verififer back on and do my backup to try and force a BSOD with IOMMU turned off
