BSOD -DISM ERROR-87, Booting very rarely!System works unless sutdown.

    Good Evening,

    ASUS G74SX-16GB RAM, NVIDIA 560M

Finally decided to upgrade Windows 10pro from windows 7 ultimate,(Deleted the factory recovery partition too!)
    Regretting now!

Worked like a charm for a day, after shut down it didn't turn on for couple of days except showing the blue scree with like white lights flashing here and there, don't know what happened it turned on today, took that opputunity and ran check disk which said some errors but fixed by itself, again checked for updates after try to restarting it didn't turn on!

Turned on again after multiple attempts of power on and off, so when its on its working when its shut down its not turning on !!

It's working now,i am typing using the system don't want to turn it off!!!

After reading some threads here i did scf/scan and dismscan..later showed Error 87,

CBS LOG AND DISMSCAN log file are attached

Pls help me,thank you for your time, if its too hectic don't mind going back to Windows 7

Please read and follow the instructions here: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

There are many additional files that need to be collected. Also need to see if any dumps were creaated as that would help id the problem.

Looks like you are having hard drive problems. There are hundreds of these in the Event Viewer:

    Attachment 250117

Also quite a few of these.

    Attachment 250116

Do you have a backup of your drive, preferably a full image backup?

If not, the first thing you need to do is backup your current install. The best way to do this is to use Macrium Reflect Free to make an image backup to an external hard drive. If you don't have an external hard drive now is a good time to get one as regular backup should be a part of your normal process. You can get a 1TB external hard drive for $50 (less if on sale).

Once you have that, proceed with the hard drive diagnostics.

    Diagnostics Test
    HDD TEST

    Run HDTune to

    • check the health,
    • scan for errors, not quick scan but full scan
    • run a benchmark.

Run CrystalDiskInfo Portable and CrystalDiskMark Portable to

    • Check health of drive
    • Check performance of drive

Also chkdsk /r against the C: drive. You have a 250GB drive so this will take a while (hour or more probably) as it will scan the entire drive for problems. Run this from an Elevated Command prompt. Reply Y when asked if you want to do this on the next reboot, then reboot.

You definitely want an image backup as soon as possible. Once you have that then you can check out the SSD. If it's only a year opld it should still be under warranty and you can RMA it.

I'm partial to Samsung EVO drives. Currently running a Samsung SSD 860 EVO 500GB which replaced a Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250 about a year ago because I wanted more space. The 500GB is available from Amazon for around $80 and if you look around you can sometimes find them on sale for under $70.

I also have two 2TB Seagate 7200RPM SATA III drives. Amazon has then for around $30, so drives are cheap.

Open safe mode with command prompt:
Boot into Safe Mode on Windows 10

This may take hours to run so plan to run overnight.
Run on all drives using the syntax: chkdsk /r /v C: or chkdsk /r /v E: changing the drive letter to the applicable drive.

    C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk /r /v
The type of the file system is NTFS.
    Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

    Type: Y
    reboot

Use the information in this link to find the chkdsk report in the event viewer. Copy and paste into notepad > save to desktop > post into the thread using one drive or drop box share link:
