Most of us use Windows defender with or without Malwaarebytes.

Consider making a backup image and saving the image to another drive or the cloud.
There are free and pay versions depending on the features.
(Acronis, Aoemi, EaseUS, Macrium, Paragon,etc.)

I read about windows defender and its score did get better over time, but I understand that its protection is still not perfect, considering. I had avast and then I moved to BitDefender which I'm not going to use again after my latest experience :)
Maybe I will move back to Avast...
All antivirus software are moving targets.
They all have True pos, True neg, False pos, False neg, and accuracy.
When evaluating software each evaluation method may have a different scoring method.
And the scoring may be updated each quarter.
