    WHEA_Uncorrectable_Error while using Chrome

    Hi All,

I have a PC I built about a month or so ago, so far the machine has been great. However in the last 2 weeks or so I've had 2 instances of WHEA_Uncorrectable_Error BSOD while using Chrome. The machine is perfectly stable while gaming, so I'm not sure where the problem is coming from. I believe all the drivers and firmware in the system are up to date. I've attached the requisite log files, I'd appreciate any insight you guys can provide. Thanks in advance!

BSOD's are both STOP 0x124 and both have hal.dll involved.
Most often these are hardware problems, but can occasionally be related to software/driver issues.
As such, I'd like to start with trying to fix some software issues that I have noticed.
If that doesn't work, we'll then move on to hardware diagnostics

MSI SuperCharger driver dates from 2013
    ipadtst_64.sys
Please update to a newer version or uninstall the program

3 versions of NTIOLib_X64.sys installed - all dating from 2017
Please uninstall ALL of them - they're in the following folders in C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI\Dragon Center\
    Lib
    Mystic Light
    SuperCharger

In the past these were known to cause BSOD's in MSI systems. It may be to your advantage to just uninstall the entire Dragon Center stuff and be done with it.

On occasion the Corsair gaming stuff has also caused BSOD's. I'd suggest uninstalling it temporarily to see if it helps stop the BSOD's.

If all of that doesn't fix it, then start with these free hardware diagnostics:
    1) Memtest86 (not 86+): https://www.memtest86.com/

    2) SeaGate SeaTools for Windows (test ALL hard drives - HDD/SSD/USB/etc): https://www.seagate.com/support/kb/how-to-use-seatools-for-windows-202435en/

    3) Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool

Let us know the results and we'll move on from there.
    Good luck!

    Hi jdc1,

I've uninstalled Dragon Center, and am running the long generic test/other tests on my WD drives. After that finishes I'll run the shorter generic tests/and the other tests on my ssds. Once those are done I'll run the memory test. So far, nothing has popped up. I'll keep you updated.

    Hello again,

Thanks for the link to the Intel tool! Last night I ran MemTest86 no problems there, I also ran the battery of SeaTool tests on my SSDs no issues there either. The Intel processor diagnostic tool results came back clean as well. I haven't uninstalled the Corsair software since it controls my PC's cooling system. Are there any other tests I should run? Thanks!

Please make sure images of all test results are posted into the thread.

The logs displayed both corrected and uncorrected WHEA.

    1) Run Prime95 - Stress Test Your CPU

Prime95 - Stress Test Your CPU
    a) Record the maximum temperature and post the maximum temperature into the thread
    b) Record test duration and post the uninterrupted test duration into the thread
    c) Aim for testing > 3 hrs and abort testing as needed for freezing, temperature changes (see link)
    d) Use the Microsoft snipping tool to post images into the thread.

    2) If Prime95 displays problems with the CPU > plan Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA)

    3) If Prime95 does not display problems with the CPU > swap CPU > observe the computer for stability / instability
(see if you can find a friend, neighbor, relative, or local computer store to swap the CPU).

    FYI - Prime95 stresses:
    - CPU cache
    - Memory Controller (onboard most newer CPU's)
    - RAM

Blend test is most intensive for RAM

Thanks I'll rerun the tests and post screenshots. I'll have to wait a few days on Prime 95 its near 100 degrees here and the ambient temperature is bit higher than normal.

    Here are the screenshots/reports for:
    Memtest86
    Intel diagnostic tool
    SeaTools

As I said yesterday, Prime95 will have to wait a couple days until the weather cools down.

If you note, the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool performs many of the same type tests as Prime95.

When/if the system BSOD's again, please generate another V2 report and upload it.
I'm interested in seeing if there are any remnants of the ntiolib_x64.sys driver left on the system (and if it's involved with the BSOD's).

As for the Corsair software, please visit the Corsair website to ensure that you have the latest version installed.

Beyond that, I suspect another hardware component may be to blame here.
The first step would be to disconnect ALL unneeded devices (and uninstall their software). Then test to see if the BSOD's continue. This sort of hardware troubleshooting is a long, drawn out process because you have to wait for a BSOD after making the changes. I start with removing everything that's not needed in order to cut down on the time that this will take. More info on this sort of troubleshooting here (It's an older post): Hardware Stripdown Troubleshooting
