To backup the registry, you copy the registry hives (BCD, DEFAULT, SAM, SECURITY, SOFTWARE, SYSTEM, NTUSER.DAT, the filenames are all capital).
Most of these registry hives are located in %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\, the NTUSER.DAT hive is located in %USERPROFILE%.

There are some other registry hives, such as COMPONENTS, DRIVERS and ELAM, but some of them are only loaded when they're needed (such as COMPONENTS for Windows Update).

If you're going to backup these hives, I want to urge you to not import these hives into the new registry permanently. You can import the hives to look up the differences and make the necessary edits for the programs, but I would not recommend for anything else.

Thats great, no im not planning to just hammer everything in place on the new install just need a propper backup if things go south.

another purpose of backing this up , if everything did not working im going for a complete fresh install and another VM version where i can mess around with everything working on the VM and manually copy everything needed to the actual install.

off to the new plan, will keep you updated

You can format the disk to GPT in a console.

Make sure you are not booting in legacy mode, you need to be UEFI for a GPT installation.

The BIOS currently supports both, but when i try to run the USB-Win10 as UEFI it gives an error
