    1) For HD Sentinel:
    a) Please widen the columns so that the characters in each row are in full view (attribute, status) > post a new image

    2) Run chkdsk /r /v D: and post a share link into the thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive

    3) Please post an image of the HD Tune benchmarks for the ST1000 drive

    4) Run Macrorit surface scan on the ST1000 drive:
Download Macrorit Disk Scanner Portable 4.3.0

    5) Backup all important files on the ST1000 drive.

Got the screenshots and files! Also, the ST1000 hard drive is backed up to an external hard drive.

All steps done! Uninstalled all Steam related software, so drive D: is free from any Steam files. Got the screenshot hiding nothing and executed the commands. I would like to keep using the drive as long as possible, I'm on a quite tight budget...

The chkdsk command displayed insufficient free space for D: to fix the bad clusters.

This was part of the chkdsk report:
The disk does not have enough space to replace bad clusters
detected in file 41268 of name \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\The Witcher
    3\DLC\bob\content\texture.cache.

The Steam files were reported to have been uninstalled.

Chkdsk /r may need free space as an unallocated part of the drive to repair what is in the data partition.

The bad clusters may or may not allow the modification of the partition / unallocated space.
(unmovable files may prevent the shrink)

Once there is significant unallocated space the chkdsk /r command can be ran to see whether it can or cannot complete the fix and restore.

This is a trial and error step to create the most amount of unallocated space:

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste: (enter these commands one at a time)

    diskpart
    list disk
    list volume
    select disk 1
detail disk (make sure that it is the D: drive)
    select volume 3
    detail volume
    shrink querymax
    shrink
    list volume
    list partition
    select partition 1
    detail partition

When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

Post a new image of disk management into the thread after expanding the compressed columns.

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste: chkdsk /r /v D:
This may take many hours so plan to run overnight.

Use the text and images in this link to find the chkdsk report in the event viewer > copy and paste > notepad > post a share link into the thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive.

Steam no longer appeared in the chkdsk read failure report.

There was 600 GB free space on the D partition with no unallocated space.
Now there is 734 GB unallocated space.
Error messages are known to be ambiguous.
The error message persisted: The disk does not have enough space to replace bad clusters

    Perform the following steps:

    1) Download and install Victoria
    Download Victoria 4.72b
(check several times for the proper location to click and wait for the prompt to click open)
    Download Victoria for Windows 4.3

    Use 7zip and extract all

Right click run as administrator and launch the tool

    2) On the Standard tab highlight the drive

    3) On the SMART tab click Get SMART
Using the mouse modify the width and height so that the contents of each column and row are in full view and that no characters are cutoff.
Make an image using the snipping tool and post an image into the thread.

    4) On the Tests tab click scan
    (do not click quick scan)
Once the scan has started look in the lower right corner for ignore, erase, remap, and refresh.
    Choose remap.
This may take significant time and can be performed overnight.
Post an image of the results into the thread.

    5) After the scan has completed and the results posted into the thread open administrative command prompt and type:
    chkdsk /r /v D:
This may take many hours so plan to run overnight.
Find the chkdsk report in the event viewer > copy and paste > notepad > post a share link with the results into the thread

The chkdsk report had displayed insufficient free space to fix bad clusters.
Victoria displayed read errors and abort.
Repeat chkdsk after Victoria no longer displayed insufficient free space.
The latest chkdsk displayed: An unspecified error occurred (6e74667363686b2e b1f)

There was another thread in which there were nothing wrong with drives and there were multiple drives displaying chkdsk unspecified errors.
