Lots of IRQ_Less... and KERNEL_SECURITY... BSODs on 2 month old build

I did a new Win 10 Pro 64 build last 30 December. A few weeks later, I started getting BSODs.
    • Passmark Memtest86 found RAM defects. Corsair replaced the RAM, lifetime warranty.
    • BSODs continued.
    • On 27 Feb, ran sfc and dism commands per instructions found on web searches, but BSODs continue.
    • Some BSODs occur right at boot-up, others after the system has been up for days.
    • Attached DM Collector ZIP file contains all the BSODs that happened after I ran sfc and dism.
    • After all BSODs, ran chkdsk on all volumes.
    • I have not done any driver updates, since I was cautioned by Dalchina not to use a driver update utility.

BSOD always one of these two (using WhoCrashed output)
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE

I'm not seeing anything useful in the dumps. nfo WerData showed you had 31 BSODS since the 1st of the year.
Event log shows a lot of Norton problems:

You say your Antivirus is Comcast and Norton. Please uninstall Norton for now and run with Windows Defender which is a perfectly good AV program. See if that makes a difference. What AV software are you using from Comcast?

Also, run the beta log collector and upload the resulting zip file. It collects additional data that may be of use.

Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate that.
Comcast supplies Norton as the AV/security suite. I wasn't aware of all the Norton problems. I will follow your instructions and change to Windows Defender. However, I have the same Comcast/Norton security suit installed on three other systems, without any BSODs. On the previous Windows build for this same system, I never got BSODs from Comcast/Norton.

The beta log collector zip is attached. Since I uploaded the DM collector, I haven't had any new BSODs.

system-events.txt shows a problem with one of your hard drives:

    Attachment 226032

I believe that is your Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB drive. At least that is what msinfo32.nfo tells me. Run Samsung Magician and see what it says.

I just installed the latest Samsung Magician 5.3, and this is what it reports for the 500 GB SSD. So I guess I have to ask if all those errors are "normal" or do they indicate a hardware problem that could be causing at least some of my BSODs?

Magician is not complaining so I don't know what to say. Definitely something going on with the drive. Take a look with CrystalDiskInfo Portable, see what it shows. No installation required, just run it.

I do suggest updating the SSD firmware via Magician.

I did do the firmware update after my last post.

After a few days, I'll rerun Beta Collector and see if I'm still getting those retry messages. if so, then it's time to do a warranty RMA. But ugh, i'll have to put in a regular HDD in the interim.

Normal RMA is they send you the new drive and you have to return the old one in 10 days or so. You should be able to clone the old to the new before you return it. No need for a slow HDD.

    Update:
    • The drive is still doing retries. I just verified that by rerunning Beta Collector and looking at the events file.

I went out and bought Hard Disk Sentinel Pro. (Actually I had bought it in 2014, but never installed it. Ooops. So I downloaded the Pro version and the registration key worked perfectly!)

Here is what HD Sentinel has to say about this Samsung drive. I don't know how the drive can be healthy with all these retries, but what do I know?

    Attachment 226294

Looks like I will be calling the Samsung Warranty tomorrow morning.

These retries probably explain why Windows would often stall out when I would open up a drive icon to list the top level directories.

    • The system has not BSOD'd even once since you told me to uninstall Norton security and activate Windows Defender. Here is hoping.
