    0xc0000017 BSOD Boot error

    Hello members,

    Some background:
I upgraded my window 8 system to win 10 a few years ago. I only have the win 8 DVD installation disk since the win 10 upgrade was done through Windows update.

For the most part things have been okay until today. On boot up I got a 0xc0000017 error message. It provides me two options:

    1. to hit enter and boot again (doing so brings me back to the bsod 0xc0000017 screen)
    2. To press F8 which provides me a series of 8 or 9 boot options via the number or function keys. (Pressing F8 and any of the 8 or 9 options brings me back to the 0xc0000017 bsod)

In short I'm in a bsod loop.

I did try booting from the win 8 installation disk, but same result. Brings me back to the bsod error.

It seems I may need to run the bcdedit from the command line to fix the original error. Booting to the command prompt is one of the F8 options, but as I mentioned above, any of the f8 options just brings me back to the bsod.

It seems the only option left is to borrow my sister's laptop and try downloading a win 10 recovery file on to a thumb drive and try booting from the thumb drive to a command prompt to run bcdedit.

Seeking any other suggestions from the forum members. Thank you for you time and thoughts.

    George

Read this article: Windows 10: Update error 0xc0000017 (no ramdisk memory)

It tells you the bcdedit commands to run from a command prompt in a WinPE environment (a Windows 10 install flash drive or DVD) to check for bad memory blocks in BCD store and how to clean them. All the info before
The BCD issue with bad memory

is tourist info and not very useful.

The easiest way to get to a Command Prompt is to boot a Windows 10 install flash drive or DVD and press Shift+F10 at the first install window.

When using the bootable windows 10 iso please use a camera or smartphone camera to take pictures of the commands and results and post images into the thread using share links (one drive, drop box, or google drive)

Please post the results for these commands:

    bcdedit | find "osdevice"
    bcdedit /enum all
    diskpart
    list disk
    list volume
    select disk 0
    detail disk
    list partition
