    BSOD and PC freezing every few minutes on high spec pc

    This is a gaming pc from Pierce computers UK. It has never been used for gaming but purchased due to spec as frequently edit medical videos.

    Specification is
    Intel Core i7-7700K Quad Core Processor
    ASUS GTX1070 TURBO 8GB DDR5
    Gigabyte Z270X-Ultra Gaming Black RGB LED Intel Kaby Lake Motherboard
    Corsair Vengeance LED DDR4, 3000MHz 32GB
    Corsair Air Series fans x 4
    Samsung SM961 Polaris 256GB M.2
    Samsung 850 Pro
    Western Digital WD Blue 1TB x 2 (RAID 0 Array )
    Corsair RM750x RMx Series 750 Watt Fully Modular Power Supply Unit
    Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

    It cost UKP2800 in 2017. It has worked flawlessly and suddenly over the last two months either BSOD not related to any specific activity, or freezes and cannot click on anything although mouse moves. Have to hard reboot. This appears random. Sometimes the pc works all day, other times it literally freezes or blue screens within two minutes of rebooting.

    I believe I have added the zip file as an attachment.

    Hi mjbarnard

    Welcome to TenForums

    I noticed that your system C: drive is quite full and therefore there could be times when it runs out of space during updates or when creating temporary files. You have had several cumulative updates fail according to your log files. Can you make more space available by cleaning up the disk?

    Thanks, yes I had noticed the same and was planning to do this. The pc is not used for data storage - all files are saved on two large NAS servers. While things may have accumulated over time, I had moved the documents etc folders to one of the other drives as the intention was to keep C clean for fast boots and for program files only. However there are 41GB free on C, which I would have expected to be sufficient for most purposes?

    I thought windows update would be either the culprit or a solution so I had already looked at the update history and noted that several updates had failed. I have tried to manually update several times including going back to first updates which failed but it fails every time. I have tried running the update troubleshooter and it goes through a process but still cannot update manually after that. It says Installing - 25%, never goes any further and then says process failed, try again another time. I am not able to activate the "pause updating" option as it states that the update process is active and therefore not able to pause updates.

    The problem although inconsistent is becoming more troublesome. The previous evening I could use the pc pretty much undisturbed, whereas last night I couldnt type a sentence before it froze.

    Increased C drive to 100Gb free (out of 237). No difference.

    Still happening frequently. Today the event viewer shows the last event just before pc became unresponsive as :

    The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
    {6B3B8D23-FA8D-40B9-8DBD-B950333E2C52}
    and APPID
    {4839DDB7-58C2-48F5-8283-E1D1807D0D7D}
    to the user NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL SERVICE SID (S-1-5-19) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

    Please post up a new set of logfiles so we can continue to explore possible causes.

    Thanks. Several blue screens today and multiple previous freezes have made it hard to accomplish this. Hopefully attached log file will work or help.

    Since posting this I have had around 10 BSOD. However I cant run another log file. I am even in safe mode but the process hangs at updating msinfo. I hope the attached zip file which I had to compress myself explains.

    Is the PC still in warranty? I ask because it might be an option to return it to the supplier for fixing.

    Another option is to try to system restore to a restore point saved from before this started to happen and to see if you can get back to stability. (This of course depends on you having previously set up restore points).

    There are some hints from the crash dumps that there is a hardware problem. Can you confirm if there are any BSOD crashes happening while you are in Safe mode?

    Just checked and I bought a 3 years ultra protect warranty which means 3 years parts and labour and carriage. Also this company is reasonably local and I have had good service from them when a previous power supply needed replacing (Fierce PC UK).

    I have tried system restore but the earliest it allows me for some reason is October 21 which is well after problems began.

    This really felt like a memory module fault to me so I have removed sequentially both of the 16GB Corsair Memory modules and the crashes recur with either of them so probably not (unless both were similarly faulty which seems unlikely). Further it now appears to be working well in safe mode - with no crashes so I will leave it for a day or so to check, but this suggests to me it is software? I have been trying to avoid a clean reinstall as it will take days or weeks to restore all the custom settings, email accounts, printers etc etc but perhaps I will try that. I have very robust backup strategies (2 local NAS servers backed up daily, NAS backs up daily to 2 external hard drives rotated off site, and data backed up to the cloud on 2 systems every night). So data are well protected, but I fear it will take me a month or so to get the system up and running to where it was, and it is used for a small home office supporting a medical practice so it will impact us. But that's the way it is and unless anyone comes up with anything from the logs - will have to try this.
