BSOD - DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ntoskrnl.exe

Hi,

I'm having trouble nailing down my random bluescreens, they usually occur when gaming. My machine is OC'd but was running stable for months until recently. When gaming my CPU temps reach around 65 degrees so nothing too strange there. I've also run memtest multiple times over night with no failures, so i'm running out of ideas.

Both of my recent minidumps included in the zip below point to ntoskrnl.exe as the problem, but i'm aware this could be a number of things.

I've tried driver verifier, and did discover some problematic drivers, which i have either disabled or updated but the problem still persists.

The first thing to do is remove all OC. If the problem goes away it's likely a hardware problem and you can work on swapping out parts to find it.

That also tends to lean toward an over clock problem.

There have been many BIOS updates for your motherboard since the version you're currently using and most of them have to do with improving stability and compatibility. Is that intentional? Personally, I prefer to have the latest BIOS running on a motherboard to be sure it's as stable as the manufacturer has been able to achieve. I'd suggest updating to the latest from here unless you know of a good reason not to do so. I think the EZ Flash tool in the BIOS menus will allow you to update directly from the Internet.

Thanks for your replies.

My first thought was the OC too, but I was hesitant to wipe it entirely as I had been stable for a good while. For me, it may be unrelated, but I installed a system update to combat the meltdown/spectre vulnerability a few months back and it feels like my system has been unreliable since then.

In terms of the BIOS, I'll definitely update it if you think that's the best course of action.

I agree with what Ztruker wrote. 0x124 could very well mean the overclock is unstable. BIOS updates can help with stability but I'd start with all overclocking removed including running the memory at the DDR4-2666 setting (rather than DDR4-3200) since that's the highest officially supported by Intel for your CPU.

So I wiped the OC for a couple of days and it seemed stable. I went ahead and updated the BIOS to v.1412 as recommended too so fingers crossed. I might try another OC this weekend with a bit of extra voltage to be safe.
