BSOD on fresh install, 6700K 1070 SLI WHEA UNCONTROLLABLE ERROR

Originally started yesterday. Was using 1070s in SLI but had given one to a friend since his had gone to repair. Was now running a single GPU. Initially thought it was a driver issue and reinstalled Windows.

    Background.

The memory, atleast I thought had been giving issues this January. The PC refused to start and the Mobo showed an Orange light. (ROG Z270G). It resolved itself.

I switched memory with aforementioned friend to test and it still is giving error.

I have reseated the CPU, the cooler, RAM, GPU, plugged everything back again, flashed BIOS. Still no solution.

Installed OS over thrice as well.

The PSU could have been giving issues since there were a couple of power cuts recently but I am currently running a Prime95 test while I created the files for this post and had for the first time applied an OC profile in the bios as well thinking it would tell me if the PSU was faulty. It hasn't crashed yet. However if I do even the simplest task like close browser window when not stress testing, it crashes.

Please help me. The RAM, GPU, CPU are from 2016. The Second GPU is from 2018. The Motherboard, cooler and PSU 2017.

Also, even on fresh install, the following three are Yellow in Device Manager
    PCI Memory Controller
    PCI Simple Communications Controller
    SM Bus Controller

Reinstalled Chipset Drivers and switched GPU slots as well.

There is a BIOS update you should install:

HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) F.72 Rev.A 12.4 MB Jun 28, 2018

Start with the two older graphics drivers:

    Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver 10.18.15.4248 Rev.C 169.2 MB Aug 5, 2015
    NVIDIA Graphics Driver - Skylake 10.18.13.5324 Rev.A 630.1 MB Jul 21, 2015

Once they are installed, then try updating the driver from Device Manager, see if Microsoft has anything newer. If that doesn't help then go to the Intel and Nvidia web sites and try the latest driver for your devices:

    Intel: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/pro...aphics-Drivers
    Nvidia: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driv...x/138072/en-us

The dumps are all the same:
    Code:
    WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR (124)
A fatal hardware error has occurred. Parameter 1 identifies the type of error
source that reported the error. Parameter 2 holds the address of the
WHEA_ERROR_RECORD structure that describes the error conditon.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: 0000000000000000, Machine Check Exception
    Arg2: ffff8008acd82028, Address of the WHEA_ERROR_RECORD structure.
    Arg3: 00000000f619cac0, High order 32-bits of the MCi_STATUS value.
    Arg4: 0000000000040150, Low order 32-bits of the MCi_STATUS value

This could be a CPU problem but more likely caused by one of the devices you don't have a driver installed for or only a Microsoft default driver. Try the graphics drivers I mentioned above and the BIOS update as they may fix the problem.

Have you tried right clicking on

    PCI Memory Controller
    PCI Simple Communications Controller
    SM Bus Controller

and selecting Update Driver? See if Microsoft has driers for these.

Hi, the BIOS update you listed are for an HP motherboard. I think you confused the specs with an old 2014 laptop specs I had listed over here. My fault.

    The current specs are

    ROG Z270G
    6700K
    G.Skill RipJaws V 2400 8 x 2
    MSI Gaming X GTX 1070
    RM 850X Corsair

I have updated the three drivers by searching them online in the Device Manager. I have removed a memory stick and running a single on with XMP. It seems to be stable right now.

What I don't understand is, that before, even on a fresh install, I never had to install drivers first to solve any BSOD issues. I never got any BSOD issues on a fresh install without drivers. I greatly appreciate your reply.

Did you update the Nvidia 1070 graphics driver? If not, please do so.

Also, noticed your 8GB memory DIMM is in slot A1, single DIMM should be in A2:

    Attachment 205339

Lots of people have had driver problems after upgrading to 1803 (17134) and I believe that is what is causing your problems.

Please run beta log collector and upload the resultant zip file. It collects additional data that may help in identifying the cause of you r problem. Also may not but worth looking at. You can find it a the bottom of the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions instructions.
