I'm going to try restoring a partition myself - a while since I've done it. But I'll have to set up a dummy on a spare external hard drive. I'm not going to try with a boot disk... other things to do!

Hope the URL I posted and video etc might help you.

Images: My post 13 offers 2 levels of magnification: the mouse pointer changes to a magnifying glass - for the next level up. (I can't capture it just now).

Your post 14 offers none, but your post above offers just 1 level.

Perhaps the problem is that having apparently chosen 1 partition to copy, the rest get reselected. In the above I had to deselect all but 1 in the red ellipse leaving the one in the blue circle.

Note the source disk is at the top, the destination at the bottom.

I have the sequence leading to that if you want it.

Then you follow the instruction at the top in the brown ellipse.

That worked. Everything is back to normal!

I can't thank you enough! I really appreciate all you have done.

My next task is to disk image what I have now and do that often.

    Thanks again.

Wow - that's remarkable..! well done.

Is your RAID configuration still valid?

Looking ahead, if you wished, one you have a full disk image, you could consider changing to use a UEFI / GPT configuration. There's a tutorial on how to do convert your system using a Microsoft utility, or one user recommends doing it all manually (Disk part etc)

    Yes, RAID is still valid.

Will probably change to a UEFI / GPT configuration as you suggest. Will have to do some reading up on the links you provided. Again, thank very much.
