Cannot update past Win 10 v.1803 Build 17134.48

    Currently running Windows 10 Home x64 v.1803 Build 17134.48.
ANY attempt to update past that - whether via Windows Update or by installing in-place upgrade ISO from USB - results in BSOD repair loop w/ UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP error. This includes Builds 17134.165, 17134.191 and 17134.228. In each case, on subsequent restart the system goes into the "can't repair" loop and has to be reverted to a previous image.

    System: Dell Inspiron 660 w/ Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3330 CPU @ 3.00GHz "IvyBridge"
    Memory: 8GB DDR3 [PC3-12800]
BIOS: Version A13 dated 05/22/2018 (confirmed latest available)
    HDD: Seagate 1TB SATA-600 7200rpm HEALTH=GOOD (Reallocated Sector Count = 0)
Video: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v2/3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller [Dell]

All Dell boot-time and support.dell.com diags PASS.
All 3rd party AV software uninstalled - using Windows Defender only

Windows Startup Repair couldn't repair your PC.
sfc /scannow reports "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."
Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth took a while then reported "The operation completed successfully."

No dump so not much to go on.

Try running in Safe Mode: See this tutorial: How to Start Windows 10 in Safe Mode

Boot into Safe Mode from which environment? The reverted image of 17134.48 which has no dump file? Or the updated version 17134.228 which goes into the endless Repair loop where I can't even boot into Windows to create a dump file?

Sorry, I wasn't thinking that through. Safe Mode would not be any help.

Before trying another upgrade, run the following commands in sequence from a Elevated Command Prompt.

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    SFC /scannow

If any one fails, run it again, up to 3 times. You're looking for clean runs from all 3 commands.
Do a Clean Boot then do the upgrade to 1803 via the ISO from a flash drive or mount the ISO directly (right click on the ISO and select Mount)? Disconnect everything except mouse, keyboard and display before the upgrade.

The result of the 2nd two commands was in my original post (at the end). Re-trying all three commands in that order, then will try (again) to update ISO on USB. Will update later with results.

Don't forget the Clean Boot part.

The three commands completed successfully (the first took two attempts). Kept all logs if you want to see them.
"Don't forget the Clean Boot part." Here's what I did:
    - Used Task Manager > Startup to Disable everything
    - Unplugged Ethernet cable and disabled WiFi
    - Rebooted
    - Ran (as Admin) Setup.exe from the USB ISO
    - Chose "Not right now" for Install Important Updates
    - Chose X Install Windows 10 Home
X Keep personal files and apps
It's running now - will update when done. Let me know if you'd like DISM and SFC logs.

If you have the logs, please upload them. I'm curious what they fixed.

The DISM and SFC /SCANNOW logs from the v.1803 b.17134.48 install are attached, along with a "Key" text file explaining which is which.

Successfully performed in-place install of freshly-downloaded Windows 10 ISO file from USB by running setup.exe as Admin, with options "Not right now" for Install Important Updates and "Keep personal files and apps" and Internet (wired and WiFi) disabled.

BTW, I have implemented the Registry key HKLM > SOFTWARE > Policies > Microsoft > Windows > WindowsUpdate > AU > AUOptions set to value 2 to prevent auto-updates for now.

System is now at v.1803 b.17134.112 and successfully reboots w/o fatal "Repair" loop.

Re-ran both DISM commands and the SFC /SCANNOW command - all completed successfully on 1st pass, logs available on request.

What do you suggest I try next? I hesitate to undo the Auto-Update block for fear that the Windows 10 update will corrupt the machine again and put in back into the fatal "Repair" loop. I await your suggestions.

I now cannot shut down or reboot the machine without installing KB4343909 - the problematic update to Build 17134.228.
Again, I fear it's just going to hose up the system again, forcing me back into the revert-to-previous-image-and-update-again loop.
    Still awaiting any suggestions.
