    Hi Zbook

I started the test, and got a fail fairly quick. The current setup is a stick of 8Gb in dimm 1, and another 8Gb in Dimm 3. How do I proceed now? Do I have to start the test over again with the same configuration? Or do I start to test the sticks separately in each DIMM? P.S. Room temperature is very hot because of the outside weather.

See if you can perform the testing overnight when it is cooler.
    Remove both RAM modules.
    Reseat one RAM module.
Test one RAM module at a time in the same DIMM for 8 passes each.
If the motherboard is multichannel this does not test that feature.

    Okay, willdo.

Nights will be still 23° at the moment, and a lot of heat builds up during the day. From tomorrow on, nights will get cooler.

So I test stick 1 in DIMM 1, after that stick 2 in DIMM 1. Do I need to perform the same process for DIMM 2, 3 and 4?

    Thanx!

Testing the RAM modules one at a time in the same DIMM is done to rule in or out RAM problems.
Testing RAM modules at the same time is more useful in testing the DIMM and motherboard.
With the unexpected interrupt error the CPU may need to be tested.
At this time start with the rule in and rule out RAM module problems.
See if Memtest86+ version 5.01 can perform the testing on either or both RAM modules without the unexpected interrupt.

    1) If you are able to test the RAM modules without the unexpected interrupt then continue or complete the testing.

    2) The next step is to test the CPU.

    3) Choose one of the temperature monitoring software applications: Speecy, HW monitor, Speed fan:
Speccy - Free Download - Piriform: Speccy - System Information - Free
Download Speccy | Find your computer specs, free!
HWMONITOR | Softwares | CPUID: HWMONITOR | Softwares | CPUID

SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer: SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

    4) Run Prime95 - Stress Test Your CPU

Prime95 - Stress Test Your CPU | Windows 10 Tutorials
    a) Record the maximum temperature and post the maximum temperature into the thread
    b) Record test duration and post the uninterrupted test duration into the thread
    c) Aim for testing > 3 hrs and abort testing as needed for freezing, temperature changes (see link)
    d) Use the Microsoft snipping tool to post images into the thread.

    5) Download and install the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool

When the test completes please use the Microsoft snipping tool to post an image into the thread.

    Hi zBook.

Some very strange occurrences happened yesterday. After the halted CPU, I tried to restart the PC.
    - First I got an "out of range" on my monitor. The PC Failed to boot, and booted into the BIOS, after the "American Megatrends" screen, stating there was something with the boot proces, and I needed to go into the BIOS setup.
    - I restarted my machine. and suddenly my monitor gave me an "out of range" message
    - I restarted the machine again, and suddenly, I got these strange artefacts on my monitor. I took a picture of it

    Attachment 197441

    - I powered the PC off, and I removed the NVIDIA GTX1080. After a restart, the same strange artifacts.
    - Then I did some different memory swaps, back and forth in DIMM 1 & DIMM 2, with several restarts after each swap. No strange screen, but I did get the "out of range" message again. Note, the GPU is still removed.

    - After that, I swapped my Display-port cable with a HDMI-cable. After restart, I did not get an image, nor did I get the out of range error.

    - Then, finally, after a cooldown of more than an hour, I restarted the PC, and it booted normally.

I'm going to re-test the memory now as you asked, while it is a much cooler day. The GPU is still uninstalled. I assume this won't give any problems, or has an influence on false positives/negatives? After that, I'll move on to the processor testing.

You also should take note that I contacted ASUS a few days ago, and after making sure my RAM was compatible, he suggested the following:

    Attachment 197443

But I think I'll save that after the RAM & CPU tests?

I always felt in my gut that there is a serious hardware problem, related to CPU and/or MOBO. While we continue testing, I am going to look for information about RMA'ing the CPU and the motherboard, as there is still a warranty until april 2019.

Another thing. After checking the asus h270f devices compatibility list, I see that several components are not on the list. My samsung 950pro for example, as well as my MSI Nvidia GTX1080. Could it be there are incompatibility issues there? Or conflicting hardware from unsigned manufacturers?
I collected a dxdiag-report and the devices-list on my one-drive. It might be helpful to look into it, as my knowledge is very limited regarding this matter.

If you require another spec-report, please let me know!

I want to emphasize I really appreciate your time in helping me to pinpoint the problem. It's thanks to dedicated persons like yourself that makes a community a fantastic place to troubleshoot problems, and look for information!!!

I'm going to start the memtests now.

    1. Remove all cables that are connected to the system board.2. Remove all linked parts.3. Place the motherboard on the box / package.4. Reset the CMOS for 5 minutes, remove the battery from the motherboard.5. Replace the battery.6. Install the CPU with cooling block.7. Insert a RAM module into the slot of the DIMM_A2.8. Connect the 24-pin and 8-pin ATX power connector.9. Switch on your system ..

The Memtest86+ version 5.01 had displayed an unexpected interrupt.
This often indicates a problem with the CPU or the motherboard.

That is good news that the computer is under warranty.

The testing can be continued (Memtest86+ version 5.01, Prime95, etc) or you may be able to RMA and have Asus test and replace malfunctioning components.
The CPU can be tested using software but there is no test for just the motherboard (it is often by the process of elimination)
Asus could simply swap parts using the RMA.

    Hi zbook,

I started the memtest86+ on the 2nd ram stick (I gave the other 16Gb to my son, so for now, there are only 2 sticks to go with ;-)

Frustrating thing was that I fired up the test before I went to sleep (I checked, test DID start) But when I got up this morning, the PC has booted into windows. In attachment a screenshot from the first module (shortly before pass 8. I'm starting the 2nd module again within a few minutes. Is it normal that memtest86+ doesn't recognize my DDR4 ram? If you look at the screenshot, it states unknown DDR3

    Attachment 197567

I also did the Prime95 stress test for 3,5 hrs, and I performed the intel processor test. All results attached. I'll keep you posted on the 2nd ram module, assuming my PC won't reboot again.

    Please use Memtest:
MemTest86 - Official Site of the x86 Memory Testing Tool
    For DDR3 > use Memtest86+ version 5.01
For DDR4 > use Memtest (latest version)
The BETA log collector is being updated to collect this information.
It is not yet the version that is on the web page.
Each test has false pos, false neg, true pos, true neg, and accuracy.
The Memtest testing should be faster.
