    Installing Wrong Driver Caused WDF_VIOLATION

I was having trouble with my Lenovo Legion Y520 laptop Elan touchpad. It would activate anything the cursor traveled over. Long story short: Tried various drivers from the Lenovo website but to no avail. I googled the problem and came across some Elan drivers on Softpedia site (I think). Install the latest driver, ignored the warning about it may not work (something like that) and restarted. I know I was foolish. I am even more foolish in that I had installed Macrium Reflect 2 days ago but had not yet made an image.

I am stuck in a boot loop with the WDF_VIOLATION message. This is what I have done, to no avail:

Can't boot into safe mode, the BSOD happens before getting to it.

System Restore won't work as it gives me an error (0x80070003).

Booted with the Macrium Rescue USB stick and tried to repair the boot menu. It says it has deleted the old and made the new but still get the BSOD

Downloaded Kyhi Boot DVD/USB from this forum and formatted the USB stick as FAT32 and copied the .iso on to it.
Tried booting with it but no go. I get a message that there is no USB boot on the laptop.
I go into the BIOS only to find that the USB boot option has gone. It was there before as changing the boot order to the USB, was one of the first things I did with this laptop when I bought it. There in no optical drive.

With no USB stick connected, I can get to the Recovery options where I can choose to Refresh windows without touching files, etc and I can also get to choose to install from the Lenovo Recovery partition. I assume they would work or maybe not and get back to the BSOD loop.

Is there any way I can get to uninstall that driver without going down the Refresh/ Restore option?

Anyway to bring back the USB boot option?

I came across another Y520 owner having a missing USB option and he was able to get it back by doing some BIOS changes, which I will do at a last resort. See here, 3rd post down: Solved: Lenovo Legion Y520 Missing USB in Boot Menu - Lenovo Community

Even if I am able to get the USB boot option back and can boot into the Kyhi software, will that enable me to uninstall the driver? The only way I know how to uninstall it is through the Device Manager. Will I be able to access that option using the Kyhi software?

Any suggestion folks or am I in a corner?
Off to bed as it is 1.55 am and I have a headache.... wonder what caused that... lol

What happens if you use one of the following hotkeys to try and access the boot menu and then select the USB to boot with the Kyhi USB? F12 or Fn + F11

With no USB stick connected, I can get to the Recovery options where I can choose to Refresh windows without touching files, etc and I can also get to choose to install from the Lenovo Recovery partition. I assume they would work or maybe not and get back to the BSOD loop.
Can you get to a command prompt from the Recovery Menu? If so, you can delete the driver from there.

Techjourney, thank you for replying. Using F12 or Fn + F11 does nothing, unfortunately.
I can get into the Command Prompt.

    It shows:
    Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.17134.1]
Not enough memory resources are available to process this command.

    X:\windows\system32>

Please explain how to delete the driver through that.

    1. To get a list of the drivers and see the location use the following command

    4. Copy and Paste the following into Command Promptdriverquery /v > 0 & notepad 0
This will open the list in Notepad to make it easy to see and copy and paste if needed.

Then you can also use Notepad to navigate to the correct file location such as C:\Windows\System32\drivers and delete the file. Make sure you select All files and not .Txt files in notepad. Let me know if any questions.

You may want to create a Restore point first. Type rstrui from command line to run

When I type in rstrui, I get:
"To use System Restore, you must specify which windows installation to restore"

Do I need to change X to C (where Windows resides?)
It has been many many years since I played with Command Prompts that I have forgotten even how to do that. You now have a realization on my level of expertise, which is not much.

Still get the same message on creating a restore point after I change to c:\
Let's not follow that path as in my original post I mentioned restore did not work and if following this path of deleting the driver does not work, I will try the refresh windows and if that does not work, restore from the recovery partition.

    To continue:
    Typed in cd c:
    x changed to c:\

    Then when I typed in:
    driverquery /v > 0 & notepad 0

    Got this:
'driverquery' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

    I then typed in:
    /v > 0 & notepad 0

    Got this:
'/v' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
    I am left with c:\>

Notepad did open but is blank. Perhaps when you are at home and have the time, you may be able to be more explicit with what I need to do. Thank you for your help.
