    I suspect you need a cumulative update to add the missing packages which are presumably not in the install.wim

    I was working on the assumption that the packages are missing or corrupted on your C:\Windows\Servicing\packages folder. Do you have any way of checking them via command prompt? @Bree has kindly offered to post up an example of his Package_309_for_KB4056892~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~10.0.1.9 if you need one to compare.

    I used the standalone installer to install KB4056892 on my test machine running x86 1709 to get the .mum and .cat files for package 309. Here you are.

    just wanted to double check:
    what exactly do you guys want me to do with the .cat and .mum files?
    1) run integrity check on existing catalog installed on the OS with the problem? Not sure how do this (signtool?)
    2) copy files provided by Bree to
    C:\Windows\winsxs\Manifests and C:\Windows\servicing\Packages and try to rerun DISM to see if the problem with the 309 package disappears?

    First, just compare my .mum file with your one. The can both be opened in Notepad as they are text files.

    Report any differences you find so that @philc43 can advise how to proceed.

    I compared the .mum files and the one posted by Bree is readable text, while mine is not.
    I also used a diff program to run a compare - image posted.

    I've attached both the .cat and the .mum files from my PC as a zip file.

    This is not really my area of expertise but it would seem to me that you need to get the correct versions of the package files onto your C:\ drive (your option 2 from post #34) and then test to see if it makes a difference.

    I copied the .cat and .mum files provided by Bree to c:\windows\servicing\packages of the affected machine, and then I re-ran the command below (aka trying to recover from an image offline).

    X:\Sources>DISM /Image:C:\ /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:E:\sources2\install.wim:2 /ScratchDir:C:\Scratch

    I verified that the error count went down from 144 to 143, and the error associated with package 309 is gone.

    How would you propose I proceed with obtaining all the known good packages?
    I do have a couple unused computers where I could install a Win 10 x86 system, it will likely take a couple days. I'm wondering if I could simply extract .cat and .mum files from the .cab files?

    Also - I assume it would straightforward to write a batch file to copy all of the files from a working computer to usb and then from usb to the servicing directory of the affected pc?

    That's great! You are doing really well.

    in the command you used:
    X:\Sources>DISM /Image:C:\ /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:E:\sources2\install.wim:2 /ScratchDir:C:\Scratch

    The 2 is called the index number. Are you sure this is the right number so that it matches your installation. In a previous post #21 you were using index number 1. You can find out what all the index numbers are in your particular ISO by using the following command:

    dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:<Drive Letter>:\x86\sources\install.wim

    Substitute <Drive Letter> for the actual drive letter for your mounted ISO.

    I have found no way to extract the .mum/.cat files from the .cab, other than by installing KB4056892. On my 1709 x86 PC I see 138 .mum files, from Package_309 up to Package_573. There is also a Package_for_RollupFix~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~16299.192.1.9.mum with the same date as the others (so I assume it's part of KB4056892).
