Do you have any restore points saved from a few weeks ago when your device was working properly that you can try and activate? Again I'm not sure if the Surface uses system protection or not.

That would be the way to go if you can get a USB drive to boot.

it wont let me upgrade from usb unless i boot into windows normally and fire it up from there ....

However, i have just tried again, the option to reset PC without losing files..and its started, not sure if this is because its using the USB, it didnt let me before...fingers crossed x

it worked !. i can get back in, however, i npw have this ASP.NET machine account as well as administrator account and my usual account im logged in, the admin account was there before but the the ASP.NET one, also i notcied the tiles on start menu are blank/missing...somethings afoot, reckon i should take my files off and completley wipe the drive and reinstall?

EDIT: missing tiles look to be just broken links to my apps.

Let the device restart for a few times and you find it will sort itself out.
