BSOD - PowerSpec 1510

I purchased my PowerSpec 1510 laptop in November. I started getting BSOD several weeks later and they would reoccur every couple of days. The errors varied with Faulty Hardware the most common. I took the laptop to Microcenter for investigation under warranty and they could not recreate the issue. I have been using the laptop as a desktop replacement with 2 monitors and I am not confident they hooked up additional monitors when they tried to recreate the issue.

They did agree to replace the laptop but they swapped the hard drives so that I wouldn’t have to reinstall everything.
Since getting it back I continue to get BSOD. The only common components are the hard drives and the drivers.

I found tenforums and followed a couple of the debugging steps. Sfc /scannow didn’t show any problems. I ran for a day with DriverVerifier set on for all non-Microsoft drivers and got the attached Memory dump.

Would appreciate any help in figuring out what is causing the BSOD.

1) Open file explorer > this PC > C: > in the right upper corner search for: C:\windows\memory.dmp
Zip the file > upload to either one drive or drop box > post a share link into this thread

2) In the left lower corner search type: system or system control > open system control panel > on the left pane click advanced system settings
a) > on the advanced tab under startup and recovery > click settings > post an image of the startup and recovery into the thread.
b) > on the advanced tab under performance > click on settings > under performance options > click on the advanced tab > under virtual memory > click on change > post an image of the virtual memory tab into the thread

3) Run memtest86+ version 5.01 for at least 8 passes. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool
This may take hours so plan to run it overnight.
a) Please make sure you use the Memtest86+ version 5.01 with the link below.

The testing is done not by time but by passes.
The more passes the better.
There are a significant number of false negatives if fewer than 8 passes are made.
A false negative is a test pass when there is malfunctioning RAM.
There is 16 GB of RAM on the computer.
Memtest86+ version 5.01 testing takes approximately 1 - 2 hours /GB RAM
Just 1 error is a fail and you can abort testing.
Then test 1 RAM module at a time in the same DIMM each for 8 or more passes.
b) When Memtest86+ version 5.01 has completed 8 or more passes use a camera or smart phone camera to take a picture and post an image into the thread.

4) Turn off Windows fast startup:

5) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
6) sfc /scannow
7) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
8) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread
9) chkdsk /x /f /r
This may take many hours so plan to run overnight

10) Use the information in this link to find the chkdsk report in the event viewer. Copy and paste > notepad > post a share link into the thread

11) Run HD Tune:

For startup and recovery system failure:
Un-check: Automatically restart

When automatically restart is checked and there is a BSOD you may not know that there was a BSOD unless you had open windows or work and they are no longer open.

When automatically restart is un-checked you will see the BSOD window. It is important whenever it is see to allow it to complete at 100% to create a dump file. The BSOD will display a bugcheck which is the method of classification of each BSOD crash. Sometimes the BSOD windows may display a misbehaving driver in the form *.sys and if you see the misbehaving driver you should record it and post it into the thread.

When Windows upgrades this setting may be changed to the default automatically restart. You would then need to modify the default setting so that you can see when the computer has a BSOD crash.

I will make the change after I finish the memtest86 runs

I have written down the following causes from the various BSOD over the last 3 months:

• Critical Structure Corruption
• Kmode exception not handled NTFS.sys
• STOPCODE Memory Management
• Faulty Hardware Corrupted Page (3 times)
• Stopcode: Driver overrun stack buffer
• Stopcode: Memory Management (2 times)
• Driver IRQL not less or equal - what failed: SynTP.sys (2 times)
• System Error Exception nvhdab4v.sys
• System thread exception not handled

Please open the website for the notebook manufacturer > enter the product or serial number or model > select the operating system > view drivers and BIOS > post a URL or hyperlink into the thread

If the computer has Ccleaner > click on the windows tab > scroll down to system and advanced > post an image into the thread

If the computer has any other cleaning software > post the name of the software into the thread

Were there a total of 4 memory dump files?

In the opening post it displayed:

• System Error Exception nvhdab4v.sys

Was this a typo for nvhda64v.sys?

For the testing with Windows driver verifer which test settings did you use or which link or reference did you use for the customized test settings?

Still running Memtest, so it wil be another 24 hours before I can get some of the info

I started saving memory.dmp files, so yes there are 4 in the zip

nvhdab4v looks like a typo or bad handwriting - rereading my note, nvhda64v looks correct

I used the Driver Verifier settings from here:

(checked all the non-microsoft -drivers)

Only memory1.dmp occurred while driver verifier was active. I turned it off after that based on the instructions saying not to go too long with it enabled.

There were multiple misbehaving drivers in the debugging.
So ruling in / ruling out RAM will be useful in the troubleshooting.

The first link has approximately 3 customized tests. The second link has approximately 19 customized tests.
If the computer becomes too sluggish or if the boot times are too prolonged the number of customized tests can be reduced.

I assume when you say the link has 3 customized test settings, you mean these:

• I/O Verification
• Force pending I/O requests
• IRP logging

​Which are the 3 I enabled for all the non-Microsoft drivers.

I will go ahead and redo the test with the ~19 tests as soon as I finish the memtest.

For memtest86+ version 5.01 please make sure that there are at least 8 passes.
The greater the number of passes the better the testing.
Just 1 error is a fail and the testing can be aborted.
Then test 1 RAM module at a time in the same DIMM.
