Mail Notification Question
-
Ok, good. We shall see if it's the app itself, for which I don't think it is for it seems to work, or a service that fails, for which I think it is. I'm thinking that is why it for it works for some and not others.
I've just upgraded my 8.1 to 10. I'm going to fresh install it soon.
One thing I was wondering while I watched it update today and re install mail
I might have been trying to update/configure mail initially when it was on the older version, causing issue updating it because I was using it, corrupting something somewhere
or as you say, a background task failing
need to monitor it for a while, but its looking like the repair install has cleared up the issue

Hi Everyone,
I found more Email App Settings that have been reset to default after the Windows 10 repair install.
Open your Mail App, Click on Settings in the bottom left of the Mail App.
Then click on Accounts > (select an account) > Change Mailbox Sync Settings > Download New Content > As Items Arrive (depending on account type this setting may not be available, Outlook - IMAP - etc) > Download Email from > ANYTIME > Done > Save
You will need to do this for each account in your Email App.

not sure if this is normal behaviour or not
after the repair, I get live tile and notifications without any issue while using the machine
however, if I leave my machine for a while (power saving kicks in and turns display off, but otherwise running normally), then notifications stop working
unfortunately I didn't give it time to see if they start working on there own, I opened mail and everything went back to normal

Consider going to Control Panel > Power options and changing settings to see if changing display options will keep the notifications working. I am suggesting doing this temporally just to check the reliability of notifications.

Thanks, will give that a try tomorrow, gone 7pm here now so will be shutting down shortly
I was thinking it might be somehow tied into quiet hours, if the machine looks like its not being used then it silences everything?
cant find much out about quiet hours except for the toggle in action centre
as it is now, if it continues like this, its a huge improvement, at least I get notifications while using the machine

Agreed HUGE IMPROVEMENT ! Just making more coffee here in Western Pennsylvania (near Pittsburgh). Go Steelers.
EDIT*********************************EDIT**********************************EDIT
I have my quiet hours turned off until someone can tell me what the default hours are.
I also want to know if I can set CUSTOM quiet hours. No info has been available.
I just turn my volume off while I sleep. (old fashioned quiet hours)

The only good news I have is when I open my Mail App all mail is displayed. I do not need to click on the sync button any longer.
My live tile, sounds, banners and action center notifications not working again.
I have double checked all my Main Settings and Mail App Settings.

That's how mine are again
I occasionally get notified after I have opened mail, but leaving it and they eventually just give up
