I ran SFC twice. The first time it stopped. The second time it finished. The problem with Outlook was solved but seems to have returned today.
I ran scannow - it found and fixed errors - but the inability to send messages from MS Outlook persisted.
So, I ran scannow again - no errors found.
Next thing I tried was to compare the Outlook output port number with my IS providers recommendations - the upgrade had changed the port - I put it back to the (recommended by Demon.co.uk) setting of 587 - Sending e-mail still blocked.
Then, on an illogical whim, I tried changing the sending encryption from SSL to TLS (not understanding either term!!)
Whopee !! !! - in communication with the World again.
In passing I should say that I spent about an hour in text communication with a Microsoft so-called Problem Solver earlier today- he did not mention ANY of the solutions found and published in this thread - nuff said
[but I did find out how to revert to Windows 8.1 if total despair set-in]
sfc/scannow (as administrator) worked first time for me. Thank you
I have notice the problem to and I manage to get around it by just using IE 11 and open outlook
through there by going to windows live in my favorites..
