Now that is the only native FF function - it's to notify you that there's a new version available - I think it's called Quantum...Or the green arrow on the settings on the right?
I gave Firefox Quantum another try and very impressed with the speed (very snappy) font rendering and graphics look great and like the new design which is very easy to use and set up nicely...I did make it my main browser, in fact....Only thing is i am noticing a lot of memory consumption as compared to chrome and edge...
When it initially starts it is fine but after a while, it seems to increase a lot...Have there been other reports about that? Could it also relate to it's use of all the memory cores (i have an Intel I5 which has 4 cores)...? I do have 8 gb of total ram, but where as before my total average (using resource monitor) was about 2800 mb and now with firefox running it is about 3800 mb, so that is quite a jump up...Hate to see so much memory being used because otherwise i really love it....However, that's like a whole extra gb!
I could go back to Edge instead, but as i said, really like this a lot...
Considering Mozilla is boasting about a reduced use of ram, this seems rather odd that it would do this on my system...
After downloading Firefox Quantum I found no substantial reason for a lightweight user such as myself to leave the comfort of Edge. I do wish those who do migrate to FQ the best.

If you do not need to change no reason to do so, i find firefox better because it does not get in my way and i have the same user experience both in windows and linux, that would be impossible to do with Edge.

That's not the new firefox quantum it's the old one (with several plugins, someone must have installed in your pc maybe some malware i guess since you state you don't know what they are).
I think you miss one of the key points of firefox, i.e. it is higly configurable, here a comparison beetwen edge (on the left, no customization) and firefox 57 (on the right), it seems pretty simple to me, anyway user experience is somehow quite subjective.

I do now know what these buttons are for (I didn't bother looking before) TOR, User Agent switcher (possibly useful) and HTTPS everywhere (certainly useful). @Bree mentioned that the last one (the green arrow on settings) was to indicate a possible update to Firefox but that is the torproject problem not mine.
I was only really moaning about aesthetics looking old fashioned though. Otherwise all browsers seem pretty much identical except what synch options are available to your other devices.
I do notice you don't have a search box - I wonder why I do. Please don't answer that though - I'll look it up myself

Did you install Firefox 57 you can tell in your pic it was not 57 because 57 has square tab's yours were rounded.
By the time you figure out what all the stupid squiggly icons in Edge are, you could do what you want in Firefox 10 times over. Why don't the designers just put text there instead of forcing you to hover the mouse over the icon to find out what the h--l it is.....
I'll say one thing, Edge is slowly getting better for me - at least you can now nest favourites in the favourites bar, instead of being shunted off to the right hand sIde dropdown list....Pity about the wasted vertical space between lines though; I suppose that's for people with touch screens & fat fingers.
I'll give it another 6 months till I try it again, but I doubt I'll ever move from Firefox.
Never thought I would say it but I favor Edge. These days Chrome and Firefox are updated way too often and many times with breakage of some sort. Edge so far, has only been updated to add features and I have not had any issues with it at all. Edge has a clean interface, extensions and is reasonably fast.
Is Edge the fastest, no. Is Edge reliable, yes, very much so. To each their own but I have grown to like Edge. I see people using Palemoon as their browser because they dislike the rapid release cycle that Firefox and Chrome use. For me Edge is kind of the same. Just my opinion. Use whatever works best for your particular needs.:)
