Why would Chrome use my webcam?

The title of this post says it all. I use Kaspersky and I just received a notice for Kaspersky that Chrome is using my webcam. I'm not aware of any reason for this. Could someone please tell me the possibilities? Thank you.......

Chrome can be very intrusive at it's default settings. So go to your settings, advanced settings, then content settings and scroll to camera. Make sure it's set to ask before accessing is turned on (blue) and that no sites are added.

Skype for Web would use it - it isn't always nefarious...

Thank you. I found that an online mic/cam site had permission to be used (it's a site I use often). However, I wasn't using it so the warming shouldn't have been on. Also, the cam's on light wasn't on. Strange. Anyway, I disallowed that site. Thanks again!

Thanks. I don't use the browser for Skype. I use Skype directly.

I checked security settings and my Chrome is already set to ask before using webcam, yet, there it is, using my webcam. Any other solutions? That annoys the @#$% out of me that it does that. Who else is looking at me w/ no camera light illuminated?

    You can try:

    WebCam on-off v1.4

It's portable and enables or disables the webcam driver. When disabled the webcam cannot be used by anything.

I seldom need the camera on Notebooks so I put some type of sticky [about the size of a postage stamp] over the lens to prevent inadvertent use.

That certainly works! On my android devices, I use Camera [Un][Blocked] and Microphone [Un][Blocked], which works. On her two non-internet-connected androids, wifey covered the lens. I'm going to try WebCam On/Off on my two Windows 7 Pro laptops this week.

My easy way is to open the Device Manager and disable the webcam.
Any checks for the webcam will show it non-existent.
