@HippsieGypsie - I'm confused, are you trying to help me with my issue, or are you having the same issue on your system?
Hi there. Sorry for the confusion. Yes, I'm trying to help. Just saying I have Windows Pro and not Enterprise, which I don't think makes a difference. I've been using Office for years. Had a copy of 2000 Pro then to 2014 when 2000 would no longer work. Now have O365.

Quite honestly I forgot all about that icon in the systray since Windows 8/8.1 with the introduction of the UWP/Store Mail app in which I get notifications via Action Center in 10 and was Notification Center in 8/8.1. There is no icon until I open Office Outlook 2016 in 10, nor do I remember it in 8/8.1.

I'm thinking since an Outlook account is an integral part of our MS account, we will get notifications no matter which mail app we use. It's now an integral part of the OS if one signs into a device using an MS account. Not sure about 3rd party apps, though. Don't use them.

I guess the first question should be > Do you sign in with an MS account? If so, then I think you have a Windows problem with mail, not an Office problem. Perhaps the only time Office gives notifications is with a local account?

    Got it - thanks!!!

More background - this is a work computer, so no other devices being used.

Personal preference, but I like the improvements in Win10, but I still operate like WinXP. (I have Cortana hidden, Normally have Action Center hidden (too many MS advertisements), still have the the Quick Launch Toolbar, NOTHING is pinned to the taskbar, etc.

I like seeing the little envelope by the clock without having to do anything else.

And it WAS working a week ago, but isn't working now ...

I don't think Enterprise vs. Pro makes a difference. I still use Win XP and Office 2000 at home, works well enough for me, but ...

I typically always have Outlook open, but yes, when it worked I never got a systray icon unless Outlook was open.

I don't think I sign in with an MS Account. I'm not sure how that works. I log into the network. At one time, someone registered my network id and I had to enter that when I first started testing Office 365 (on a different work computer). I know I tried to comment on the Microsoft Community forums and it acted like I don't have an account, so either I don't have one, or it somehow logs in in the background for me automatically.

Yes, Windows 10 core is still Windows NT. There is just more cloud services within, such as Outlook Mail, no matter if it be the UWP/Store app, Win32 Outlook 2016 program, Outlook O2014, or whatever. This is all part of "Windows as a service".

So then your work PC is maintained by your company IT department?

To check how you sign into your PC > Open Settings app (WinKey/I combo) > Accounts. What's it say there?

Yes, PC is maintained by the company IT department, but I don't really trust them to figure out "The new E-mail icon is not showing in Win10 and Office 365." I did mention it when asking about a different issue and nobody has gotten back to me yet.

WinKey/L didn't work - just went to the lock screen, but under Accounts for "Your Info" it shows the company network name and my login ID, and under "Email & app accounts" it just shows "Add an Account".

Sorry, but posted WinKey/I (eye). :)

Not sure, but I would guess you should ask them about adding an email account? I'd imagine they do a lot via Group Policy.

Yes, so far as my experience the envelope icon is only in the systray when Outlook is opened. I then get notifications via the box that opens along with the sound. I get email notifications via the Action Center whether Outlook is opened or not, which by the way, may be a part of Cortana. Cortana is the program that communicates with the server so far as an MS account goes. It "digitally assists". That may be why you're not getting email notifications. Did that start when you hid it or hid the Action Center?

It's not a Cortana or Action Center Issue.

I don't think it is an E-mail account option issue either.

As I said previously, I installed Win 10 (actually they did) some time ago, and I downloaded and installed Office on 1-Sep. Everything was working fine on 14-Sep and nothing has worked notification-wise since 18-September.

I had the Action Center hidden since a few days after I got Win10 and still got notifications before and after installing Office 365, so I don't think that was related.

And yes - lots of things are done through Group Policy and or locked out.

We got our last cumulative updates on the 13th. Don't know when your company installs them. Perhaps later? That may be what broke things for you. As much as I see you dislike to, I would advise to speak with your IT department. Your hands are pretty much tied to what they do.

I suspect you are correct on the updates.

I posted that there was a cum update for Win 10 on the 14th and that I am seeing sucessfully installed Office 2010 32-bit updates on the same day (which seems weird since I am running Office 2016 64-Bit, but ...)

I will try to take it up with our IT - they are unavailable until tomorrow due to Hurricane Maria.

It isn't so much that I dislike to as that it usually takes them a long time for find a solution, unless it is something that is being widely reported ...

Ok. I hope we've helped you some to at least point you in the right direction. Sorry to hear of the hurricane. My daughter and hers got lucky in FL with Irma.

Good luck to you and please report back with your solution? I'm sure all would like to know it. Take care. :)

The hurricane isn't affecting me, but apparently some of IT support is located near there.

I found one other thing that didn't help, but to rule out options: Not getting New Email Alerts on Windows 10 - MSOutlook.info.

I searched for No Email notification as opposed to No Systray notification.

I said earlier under Settings:System:Notifications and Alerts, I have Outlook 2016 On, but I found out I could click on the Outlook 2016 Icon in the list and there was an option for Play a Sound when a Notification Arrives, which was OFF, but I switched it to ON and I still don't get sounds when a new E-mail shows up.

Keep the ideas flowing and I'll let you know if I find a solution!!!
