It looks like you have the Reading pane open when you are processing mail and you positioned it on right.

When you double click on a piece of mail it actually opens that mail in an Edge windows, not a tab. There does not seem to be a way to control that. In Thunderbird you use to be able to set it to open a tab or there was a hack to open a Window.

Now I read that you said when "I click" on an email which would imply a single click. Not sure if you alter Windows behaviour to open items with single click rather than double clicks. Of course when you said "I click" you could have meant double click.

Yep Ken I don't know what I did I usually just click on the left pane message and the right side comes up with what it is about in brief and then click on links in it but look mate as I have just posted in my other email thread I am just sick of it and will just have to put up with whatever Microsoft have to dish up. This never happened in WLM and I am cynical enough to think that because I am using the free Outook it has been made that much more difficult to do anything in.

But again thanks for trying and being so patient I will mark as solved and just put up with the rot, but sad really as I said in my other thread it has taken the pleasure out of one of the last little activities I do enjoy and also can do without breaking sweat. .

    Hi,
Actually it's opening a new window which is probably preferred to another tab security wise.
ie11 has options for this type of issue or preferences which it often didn't work either
The end result to force the new tab preference was middle clicking on items instead of left single clicking
Not sure if it will work with edge since I don't use it but should in ie11 or palemoon.....

John, I really don't think you are using Outlook to process your mail. In one thread it looked like the Windows 10 Mail app.

Yes you have an address on outlook.com which could be a hotmail, msn or live account. They all are accessed by going to outlook.com.

Now if you search the app store you will see a free outlook app. Has a big "O" on its face. This should install in 10 as well as Android and iOS.

From the opening screen shot, it appears to be an Edge tab looking at an account on Outlook.com, not W10 Mail.

The issue is that double-clicking an item on the Outlook.com web site WILL initiate a new Edge window for security purposes. If you simply want to see the body of an item in the Reading pane to the right-hand side of the Outlook mail list, single-click only and the Reading pane will go to that item's body.

Yes Mike I can see what you mean and Ken

Frankly my friend the whole thing has become so convoluted I opted to use outlook.live.com and thought that was that.
But then is all unravels into some (as I see it ) chaotic mess why the heck Microsoft has put this out as opposed to how things were done in WLM is (to me again) a cynical way of getting one to use the paid for version of the email service, and why I feel sometimes 10 is really great to use only to find that some service ie the email server is entangled in more than one way of using this service.
It becomes really quite depressing to find that 10 as a system is more for the technophiles amongst us because as I said I enjoy computers and computing as one of the last few things I have left to enjoy and I am just not a technophile or indeed that savvy to keep up with the system as it now presents so that is why I said I would just put up with it as is and I can always access the secondary account through Thunderbird if I need to.

Yes gpstoloff I sort of get what you mean but I never intentionally double click on any message it just pops up out of the blue as I go through the mail listing and it leads to me having sometimes three or four "sets" of open tabs which have to be closed individually. Like I said mate all too convoluted for a simple user like myself.

Yep mate at a place named Cudal 40kms westish of Orange - Dubbo is another 160kms further on. When I first came out here we lived at a small town called Valley Heights (near Springwood) in the Blue Mountains but city life is not for me I much prefer the rural life though Orange and Dubbo get more like Sydney each time you turn around. My ex sister in law does a lot of house siting down around Mosman, Manly and the upper north shore in general otherwise she is often overseas living in both the US and Europe when she is on business (advertising and tourism)
