clearing cookies means that i have sign into various websites again
i have tried the solution with ccleaner, but it doesnt seem to work properly

I'd be tempted to use LastPass browser extension then cookies being cleared isn't an issue.

And if you clear cookies you cannot remain signed in. Same if you use private browsing mode:

I always have to sign in to check email

sorry, but i dont really get the idea of those posts
i think its possible to stay signed in, because it works on a few websites
i have already set firefox to prevent deleting cookies from the websites where i want to stay signed in
i definitely dont want firefox to restore previous sessions

Okay so you don't want to stay signed in (across sessions) - that was not clear.

    In the link:
Why Yahoo Mail Doesn't Keep You Logged In

Although it refers to yahoo email the principle is the same.

If using private browsing mode cookies will be cleared so you can't stay signed in.
Some sites have a "remember me" checkbox and if you don't tick it you can't stay signed in.

Cookie handling in Firefox could be an issue so check all settings here:

There's no option to do that in Firefox.

About sessions that you don't use so it does not matter anyway.

Restore previous session - Configure when Firefox shows your most recent tabs and windows | Firefox Help

Cookies options are all or nothing:

So really your you should set it to keep all cookies and not clear or delete them then use Ccleaner cookies to keep option when running cleanup.

Or if privacy is an issue leave firefox set to keep ALL cookies and use CAD addon and whitelist cookies for sites that you want tp login to. In other words to take over cookie management in Firefox.

I've used it for a couple of years.
