Im not sure if making the websites dark is what i want, but i have installed your addon, so lets see if it works.
I should probably also point out another example. If you go to a website such as facebook, theres a popup message telling you to register everytime you visit. I want to disable those type of popups as well.

I use AdGuard never have a problem with scrips or popups, I have used it for years, all I ever get from some sites is You are using an add blocker to continue turn off your Adblocking app, once I see that I am gone because they want to feed you with persistant adverts. For me it blocks everything, I like the simple life. Happy New Year.
Well, i just tried scriptsafe as suggested. It seems to cause problems with a lot of websites, so im not sure if its a good solution?

Script blockers block ALL scripts by default. So, when you first install an script blocker, pretty much nothing is going to run in websites. For sites to work properly, like, for logging in, to upload pictures, watch videos, etc, one or more scripts need to be allowed. What you need to do is figure out the scripts that are required for the functions you need in sites you go to. Figuring out what to allow and what not to allow is the key for enjoying using this type of programs.
At the beginning, you do a lot of trial and error. You try allowing this and that and see what happens. As time passes and you learn, you become familiar with scripts and it becomes easier, just by looking at the names you ll know if its a tracker, an adserver, or if it might be what you need to allow.
One of the keys for making script blockers user friendly is to set up the sites you visit regularly. If you do that, you wont have to deal with the script blocker when you visit those websites. For example, when I come here, visit YouTube or use my web mail, I dont have to click nothing in NoScript as I have those sites well set.
I dont use Chrome but what I am telling you here might help you with Scriptsafe. In NoScript we have a white list and black list. To set our bookmarked websites to work properly (or sites you visit regularly) without your intervention every time you visit them, you Trust/White list the scripts that are required for the functions in this sites to work. And you leave the rest of scripts as Default (They wont run) or add them to your Black list/Untrusted list. Most people using NoScript leaves them as Default. Myself, I add them to the Black list. Over the years I have built a very large black list. This becomes helpful when I visit websites at random and use the Temporarily allow all scripts setting. Untrusted scripts cant run even when temporarily allowing all scripts. More than likely, Scriptsafe doesn't have a black list but if it does, later, after you become familiar with the program, get in the habit of building it and using it.
Look at this picture of the NoScript menu when I visit tenforums.com. Use it as an example. Here, you have 7 domains that want to run scripts. But only 1 is needed for the site to work properly. So, in my NoScript settings, I trust/White list tenforums.com, and that's it. Next time I come here I don't have to do nothing. The site works. Thats the type of thing you are supposed to do with the websites you visit regularly. If you do it, you ll enjoy using this type of program as it becomes set and forget for the bulk of websites you visit on a daily basis. If you don't create a white list, then you ll fall in the category of people who call this type of programs annoying, that says it breaks the internet and uninstall it after a couple of days.

Not really. Once you set up the sites you visit on a regular basis, you ll spend little time fiddling with the program. A lot of people dont set up their sites, and continue using the program as when they first installed it, even years after they first installed it, using the program that way can be time consuming. So, set up your sites. Do a couple today, start with something easy like tenforums, and try doing YouTube also. YT should also be easy. Setting up sites gives you experience and you ll become familiar with scripts. After a while you ll know them, and notice that many domains follow you all over the internet and know what they are just by looking at their name. Let me finish by saying, the learning does take time. For me, it took about 6 months for NoScript to click in my head, once it did, all made sense, and from that day on, I started setting my white list and black list, and stopped using the temporarily allow all scripts setting.

Im still looking for a way to get rid of that ridicilious message that says secure connection failed. It happens sometimes if im visiting a harmless website that i have been visiting for years without problems.

after many moons, I have gone back to FF but notice it still does not close down quickly. I have some 'net' links on my desktop. If I close one and open another it tells me FF has not closed down, which it did years ago.
