    Printing an email message

After windows upgraded to 1703, I started using the mail app.
I do not mind the app, but I have a problem when trying to print an email onto a specified paper size (A4) in portrait mode. It seem the any text on the right side of the email is missing and if I try to print the mail as double sided it will print some more of the text from the right side but still some is missing.

The email is only one page so it should fit. If I change it to landscape mode it prints out all the text but uses four pages.

Is there anyway to specify an email to resize to fit a page.

If there is no way to resize it then I guess I will revert to using the Gmail app.

    Thanks

Is the printer set for A4 paper, also? I don't have A4 but I selected A4 and printed an e-mail and it all printed OK on mine.

Also don't overlook the "Shrink to fit" setting in the printer's properties, sometimes helps.

The printing options in the Mail App are very poor, on mine no shrink to fit and rather silly large margins, such a waste of paper.

I checked the printers paper size and it is set to A4.

The printer settings are 'Reduce/Enlarge Document' and then 'Shrink to Fit'

I have to agree with you about the lack of settings.

I tried reprinting the email, which was a receipt for a purchase from Windows Store, by going to my Gmail account and printing from there, and it printed out completely.

I then went to the mail app and tried again but it would still cut off the right side of the email text. I then tried again this time selecting 'Letter' paper size and it still cut the same amount of the email.

It seems the mail app is over riding the printer settings (which are its defaults) and choosing its own margins and font size.

On the screen the email displays properly. Is there a print preview option available anywhere?

I have also noticed that sending an email to the printer takes between 20 and 30 seconds before it will start printing.

I am sorry to say that the mail app is not really developed enough for me to continue using it because being able to print email is a big need for me.

    Thanks everyone for your help.

At the print screen (which is the same as what is in Edge Browser), there is an option for more settings. Check those for anything that may be causing your problem. I just tried another print of a large e-mail message (from Hotmail) and it printed all the pages (4) properly. I have a HP8620 network connected printer. What is your printer?

I clicked on 'More settings' from the mail app print screen, I have never used Edge so I do not know what that looks like, and the only options are and their settings:

    Page Layout
    Orientation - Portrait
Duplex printing - Print on one side
    Collation - Collated
    Pages per sheet - Off

    Paper and Quality
    Paper size - A4
    Paper type - Plain Papers
    Output quality - Standard

    Output Options
    Colour Mode - colour
    Document binding - Left edge
    Borderless Printing - off

I have tried changing some of these options but it has no effect on the way it prints out an email.

The printer I am using is an EPSON WF-2660 networked.

When I select the print comand the email is displayed in the print screen that appears and it is shown with the right text missing. I tried changed the zoom level when viewing an email prior to print but this has no effect either.

I did check out EDGE browser print options and it has three options that do not appear in the mail app, these are, Scale - Shrink to fit, Margins - Normal and Header and Footer - Off.

If these were present in the mail app I think it would solve my printing problem.

I just tried printing a different email and the displayed properly in the print screen window and it printed out correctly.

I have trouble understanding why the mail app does not give access to the printer's properties settings so these can be changed as required.

When I log into Gmail from a browser and select print, I am given the option to change any printer settings before printing.

As it stands at the moment, if I use the mail app and I find the email does not display properly in the print screen then I have to login to gmail and print from there and having to use two different mail programs just seems to a waste of time. Since Gmail works ok and even though it takes a bit longer to login to it, I think I will stick to Gmail from now on.

"On the screen the email displays properly. Is there a print preview option available anywhere? "

This is one of the problems with the Windows 10 Mail App.
When you press the Print icon sometimes there is a Print Preview and Properties box, but sometimes it just launches straight in to printing.

The Print dialogue box in Edge looks the same, that does have a Scale option, but that is not in the same dialogue box(if it appears) in the Mail App. Also Margins, Headers and Footers is missing.

Off topic, but the shrink to fit scale option in Edge cuts of the right side stuff sometimes on mine, so you have to manually scale down.
Like you I have resorted to the Webmail interface for better options for printing.

I use an HP Officejet Pro Network printer.
The Mail App and related Apps have been reset, re-installed, Windows checked and all that is OK.

I agree with you but I think that it is not the only problem with the mail app.

I too will be resorting to my Gmail account from a web browser which does print emails properly and allows me to change printer settings to suit.
