Not able to post to Facebook

When I try to post to FB from my desktop the window to which I'm trying to post gets dark then goes away. I switched the PC to my wife's desktop and there are no FB problems, only on my desktop. Any ideas on this one?

    Hi Fred.

I would clear all your history, temp pages, cookies etc. Most browser now a days call it "Browsing Data"

If you clear you need to know login names and passwords.

Not sure which browser you are using. You could try another to see if it machine specific or browser specific.

I'm using Firefox if that helps. I've had this happen mainly on my new desktop and the funny thing is, my wife can switch to her desktop (2 user accts) and post away. This has also happened a couple of times on my laptop, but I can usually log off and on and that takes care of it. So you think disc cleaning would help? Just use the on board apps or use something like CCleaner and set it to clean ALL cookies, etc.?

I opened Internet Explorer and accessed Facebook that way. Asked for my password and , bingo. I was able to post. Then went back to my desktop where I have a shortcut to FB (obviously accessed via Firefox) and could not post. Looks like your browser theory is spot on.

    Progress.

I would not run any of those Cleaner products. This comment will likely set off a debate... let's save that for another day.

Let's concentrate on Firefox. Fist you can clear all your cached content. Click on the three bars, upper right, the hamburger, then click on Options. Along the left click Advance, then on Network Tab and in the section Cached Web Content, Click clear now.

You will likely need to know your passwords. Shut Firefox down, start again and test.

If this fails time to reset your firefox browser. Click on the three bars, click on the "Question Mark" near bottom, click on Trouble Shooting. Window opens. Upper right, two options, Refresh and safe mode. You can try safe mode (for browser, not windows). If this fails "Refresh".

While you are on this screen note your profile folder. This is something you want to backup occasionally. This has your bookmarks, plug-ins, passwords, etc. Should it become corrupt you can access your backup. Makes it really handy to move Firefox to new machine. Same applies for Thunderbird should you be using their mail client.

Same thing happened to me with Firefox about a week ago, clearing all cookies, history, nothing seemed to help.....

So, I did a refresh of Firefox which created a new profile and that fixed my problem, so I am thinking somehow I screwed up the profile but not sure.......My problem started after the last big update on windows so maybe that had something to do with it......

In FF options go to the privacy tab and make sure Accept third-party cookies is set to Always and see if that helps

Ken[/QUOTE I did everything you suggested and the problem is not resolved, plus my browser is messed up, when I click "Folders" they are shown in a little drop down menu...pretty exasperated. Is there anything else I can do. Thanks for your assistance.

Sorry to hear this. Very unexpected as this was a simple browser refresh.

When you say you click on folders, that is the icon beside the Star, right? Are we talking bookmarks or history. How did they show? Indeed my bookmarks show in a drop down box but mine goes to end of page.

This article shows you how to get bookmarks back. Scroll down a little in article to get to restore.

Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to anot... - Mozilla Support Community

Before doing this please confirm by going "show all bookmarks" that they aren't already there.

So you cleared your browsing cache and that didn't work.

You then tried their safe mode and finally refresh and that made things awful.

Myself I would do the refresh again as that is supposed to reset things. If that doesn't work you need to start with a new profile as Kipper mentioned. This should not be necessary unless your profile was / is corrupt.

You could start with a new profile but that is like starting over. If you want a new profile note the folder name of current profile as you should be able to copy bookmarks over.

Wouldn't open in safe mode but I refreshed. A tech friend of mine who set up the computer called and walked me through getting back all my shortcuts, folders, etc. So everything is restored but I still can't post on Facebook 99% of the time on my desktop, and the laptop which I'm on right now had a problem this AM. So I definitely believe it's Firefox causing the problems. I even downloaded a new version and same problems. Thank you so much for your assistance and concern. If you have any further suggestions please share them with me.
