Bought a new laptop and I need to copy my IE11 history from the old PC to the new one. I can't seem to get past the access denied message box when I try to open
c:\users\(user)\appdata\local\microsoft\windows\content.ie5
I just want to put the history on a thumb drive to be transferred to the new W10 laptop.
As long as you use a Microsoft account, IE11 syncs, if you have it turned on in Settings/Accounts/Sync your settings/ Internet Explorer settings:
It works from Win10 to Win10, and from Win8.1 to Win10.
If you are using a Local account, sorry I can't help then
This is absurd. I'm using a local account, but even though I am the Administrator of that account, I am fricking DENIED access to copy my very own internet explorer history to another computer. What are you saying? Does Microsoft own this information? Not me? I was not aware I was in some rental agreement with them. Do they own the music I created and put on my old PC? Do they own my family videos?
What is going on? This cannot be the final word on this subject.
I'm going to go on a limb here and say you are trying to access the history location though the wrong path. I'm not at a computer right now else I would give you tge right path.
I'm sorry. I left out a folder on the path - it's actually
c:\users\(user)\appdata\local\microsoft\windows\temporary internet files\content.ie5
Actual path to the content.ie5 folder on my PC is:
C:\Users\Krawk\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Low
Trying to open the Content.ie5 folder gives me access denied and it tells me to use the security tab to fix this error. When I open the security tab I even try to edit permissions for "Everyone" to full control and then I get an error when applying permissions.
Or is that the wrong location?
If I right click the Windows folder inside this nested chain I can get the security tab loaded, then click Advanced, then select my username and select "replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object" but I don't have the balls to accept this. Will this fix the access problem or break something?
