Link mess – Microsoft Edge vs. Chrome?

This just started. I have put a link in a word doc. I have made Chrome default browser, both in chrome and the computer. When I try to open the link I get a popup which I can’t take a screenshot of. It says: “How do you want to open this website? Use an app, use the default browser, Microsoft Edge, always use this app to open www.google.com”. The only thing that responds in the popup is Edge. Everything else is grayed out and does nothing. I want my links to open in my default browser. How can I eliminate this Microsoft mess?

    This is the link:

Recheck to make sure that Chrome is your default browser. Go to All settings/system/default apps/then in that window, scroll down til you see "Web browser" and make sure is shows "Chrome".

    Thanks

Do you mean “All settings/system/default apps/” in Chrome or the computer?

I don’t see “All settings” anywhere. Neither in Chrome, or the computer.

Since Edge has arbitrarily taken over this computer, without my permission, should I uninstall it to stop this interference?Link mess – Microsoft Edge vs. Chrome?-edge-crap.png

    You can't uninstall "Edge"

have made Chrome default browser, both in chrome and the computer
How can you do this if you don't know where either of them are?

Click the notification icon at bottom right of taskbar, on right side of clock.

I’ve done this three times and nothing changes.

Yes but that didn’t work. I just did it (set Chrome to default) by using Control Panel.
    Thanks anyway

Also have a look at the default programs in your programs list.

Go to control panel/programs/default programs/set default programs. In the program list on left hand side....find Chrome and click on it, then set it to default. There will be a number showing x of x set as default, make sure it set as default.
