This pc uses win10 pro, and outlook 2007. Recently the connection to email server failed and I'm not able to re-establish. I tried manual settings as per Setting up Microsoft Outlook 2007 to check your email - InMotion Hosting
but connection to email (gmail.com) is not working. Email has worked through outlook 2007 for about a year and one half and for unknown causes has stopped and I'm not able to get it back.

OK, I was using pop3 and tried imap but I still not able to establish outlook/gmail connection. I then tried generating new email with gmail but that doesn't work either. There are several help items on line for both manual and auto outlook setup but none that I've tried have worked so far.
After exhausting on line help paths to fix outlook 2007's use on windows10, outlook was removed (all office). I then reloaded office 2007, and I'm still in same place: outlook/gmail pair nor working. There were files left behind after office removal though, when I went to import a saved pst file there was still memory of some pst file that was from a year ago. I in same place outlook/gmail not working even after removal of outlook.

I purchased office 2016 professional plus. I am having the same problems as encountered with office 2007, I can not connect to gmail.
This machine contains windows 10 (activated), office 2016 (activated).
Office 2016 appears to fail same as office 2007. I can not establish connection with gmail.

Did you go to the Google site and download the instructions for setting up an IMAP account in outlook? Did you get an app specific password for outlook and use it in the setup? Otherwise outlook will not connect.

somehow gmail switch got unchecked. set less secure apps switch fixed the problem. I like 2016 and will keep but this most likely would have fixed 2007 also; it is 32bit and I don't want to look back.
