Your Preferred Browser, Homepage & Email

New to W10. I've got myself all tied up in knots trying to decide upon a new browser, homepage & email. Have used Yahoo for decades on other OS' but with the hack of Yahoo email and Yahoo's pending sale I think it might be the right time to change. Your input is much wanted and appreciated.

    Hi:

You ask very broad questions with no "right" or "best" answer to suit all computers and users.
In general, most of the answers provided to your recent inquiry at our sister forum, sevenforums.com, HERE would apply.
A standard internet search for these terms would turn up many options for each.:)

Browser: under Win10, you have built-in options (IE11 and Edge). Edge is unique to Win10, but IE11 is not. Neither is the wide range of 3rd-party browsers, such as Firefox, Chrome, Opera and a huge host of similar products derived from and similar to those browsers. More info HERE. You are not restricted to having only 1 browser -- Win10 comes with two built-in. The only issue with having multiple browsers is making sure they are all kept fully updated, to minimize security vulnerabilities.

Homepage: that is entirely your choice, from among the billions of web pages available.

Email: Win10 offers its own Mail App, but there are many, many other choices. Yahoo!mail is a webmail product, but there are others, such as gmail and Outlook.com. There are also email clients, such as MS Outlook, as well as many third-party offerings (both paid and free, proprietary and open-source), such as Thunderbird, emclient, the Bat!, Mailbird, etc. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, fans and detractors. And the choice depends to some extent on how you use email: POP vs. IMAP, webmail vs. email client, sync'd across devices or not, etc.

    Cheers,

    MM

    Hi:

    Okey dokey.
Please post back if you need specific help with a specific browser or specific email/webmail application.

    Cheers,
    MM

P.S. I mentioned your other thread at sevenforums only because 1) the answers (aside from Edge (EDIT - and the Win10 Mail app)) are pretty much the same for Win7 and Win10; and 2) you recently posted here that you were rolling back to Win7.:)
If you wish, you might want to fill in your systems specs in your forum profile here. That way, we can provide more customized and targeted assistance. There's a neat little tool that will help you to do this >>HERE<< -- See the YELLOW "tip" box on that tutorial page for instructions and a link to the original tutorial & tool.

I truly the confusion and unsatisfactory participation. I did go back to W7 then after that PC died a new W10 PC was purchased.

Since my obviously novice manner causes some level of concern it may be best that I find a different forum. I am a aged retired career veteran with chronic neurological illnesses that impair my cognitive abilities.

Your help and guidance has been appreciated.

    Heavens NO, not at all.
There was nothing confusing or unsatisfactory at all about your posts, @lpatrick.
And there was no hint of impairment in your post.
It's merely the fact that we are not in front of your computer.
So, it helps us to better help folks with detailed information targeted to their situation when we know at least a smidgen about their system and their computing needs. It is a general request at computer support fora, but it's by no means required.

And the more specific question one can ask, the more specific and "tailored" can be the reply.
    That is all.:)
    Nothing more and nothing less.:)

I apologize if I in any way offended you. That was not at all my intent.
I merely provided a general reply to address a general question, at least for starters.
I expected that additional discussion might then follow.

I, too, am just an older, self-taught, home user without formal computer training.
I know how daunting & frustrating computing can be, especially these days, where everything is complex and new.
(I only moved to Win10 a few months ago, myself, even though I had been reading about it for a long while.)

As I previously mentioned, please do not hesitate to post back if you have further questions or need further assistance.
We will be more than happy to help you.

    Kind regards,
    MM

Thank you for your friendly, sincere reply. No, you generally read nothing that hints at my situation. The problem is organizing then actually conveying the situation. There is so much to master with today's systems. Again, thank you.

    lpatrick,

First of all, thank you for your service! Secondly, an old friend of mine once told me, "The only stupid question is the one you never ask." And, he was attending the U.S. Naval Academy at the time, so I think he knew what he was talking about!
