    Disenchanted with IE

My OS is Windows 8.1 and I use Internet Explorer which I have used for years. But here lately IE is giving me problems such as messages like "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and will shut down." I'm thinking about switching to Chrome. Has anyone else had problems with IE?

I only use IE to access those Microsoft sites that don't recognize Firefox or SeaMonkey, mainly due to many sites giving me problems. For what I need Chrome is usually too simple in offerings of settings.

For me I found the opposite

I was using Chrome for everything up until 2 years ago, didn't like the changes in Chrome so moved over to IE, very rare I have any issues with it

This can be caused by many problems, most of them having nothing to do with IE itself. It can be bad extensions (try disabling all extensions, even MS ones and see if your stability returns... this includes things like password managers, which I find to cause the most trouble in IE... lastpass is the single buggiest piece of crap extension I've ever used). Another issue is display drivers, sometimes a bad display driver can trip something in IE which uses 3D rendering to make things render faster... You can try disabling acceleration in IE's settings to see if stability returns.

I'm not suggesting these as permanent fixes, but rather as identifying the problem. You should also do a malware scan with malwarebytes (the only one I trust). Even if you run other anti-malware, just run the scan to be safe. Malware tends to install hidden extensions in IE and you may not even know there is something that's causing problems.

I have been since IE First came out. It should not be bundled with Windows. If it were not the usage stats would be correct. Many neewbs know no other browser.

I was forced to dump IE over a decade ago, in Favor of Netscape.

Then Netscape sort of morphed into Firefox and I've been using Firefox ever since.
I was right there on day one, when over 1,000,000 (One Million) users downloaded
    Firefox ver 1.0.

For the search engine, to run inside of Firefox, I now use only https://www.ixquick.com
the only SAFE search engine. I gave up on Google.com almost a year ago now,
when I found out that they were saving all my information for their own use. Screw that!

So whether MS comes out with a new Browser or not, is the least of my concerns. I won't use it anyway.

    Cheers mates!

Firefox is a great browser, it's all I've used for years. There's no way I'd have Chrome on my machine.

Same with me. I have used Firefox since it was called Phoenix.

I used Netscape until it's end. Then I switched to Firefox and it became my favorite browser. Now I use Pale Moon as my main browser. I only use IE when I'm on a page that doesn't work right in Pale Moon. I do test Spartan(Edge) occasionally. So far I don't see me switching from Pale Moon.
