Had to make CHROME my Default Browser in Windows 10

I used the free Windows 10 upload from Microsoft to update my computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Windows 10 was working great, then all of a sudden a couple of days ago, I kept getting fatal error messages, my computer was connected to the Internet but programs kept telling me I wasn't. I could not print, could not open my email in Yahoo. I would open Internet Explorer and the page would be completely blank but yet I was connected to the internet.
My computer is hard connected to my modem, not wireless. Called my internet provider and they could not find any problems with my connection.
I tried all the suggestions on Microsoft's Forum, like deleting SpyHunter and using my command prompt and running DISM and SFP (I think, can't remember) but they kept coming back no problems found.
So today I decided instead of using Internet Explorer, I would use Google Chrome. It worked, no problems!! So I set my default as Chrome and now all my problems, so far, are gone. Can anyone explain this phenomenon to me?

You are lucky! If I set any browser other than edge to be the default, I get all sorts of problems and error messages. So I have to leave it set to edge. I then use Firefox, as I have not used IE for the last 10 years due to its total lack of work-ability. Edge is just the same, but if you ask Cortana a question it always answers in Edge. Why does Microsoft not just get out of the browser business, and leave it to people who know how to construct a browser? Incidentally, Cortana will help if I type in the text box, but does not seem to have any language for British English that I can find, so there is no chance of "Ask Cortana" using a microphone.
