I've found that just copying the folders from one account/storage folder to another messes things up when I originally was trying to transfer messages, I'd transfer the old account folder into the new WLMail email account folder but it wouldn't sync & the messages ended up in the deleted folder under storage. I then tried what I've posted & all was fine.
You could create a new folder & drag & drop the mails into that folder from the old one.

Thank you so much. This information from both of you has really helped me a lot. I am going to make sure everything is working ok and then I think I will change the WLM account on my laptop to IMAP and trust that they will sink automatically.

I just checked into my web mail and all those new IMAP folders have migrated to this web mail account.

Although I have Gmail and Hotmail accounts, it's been for convenience more than anything and I don't actually use them much. I've always used my desktop client with the email account set up through my ISP.

I may not be saying things correctly in computer lingo because I am no kind of techie, but I hope I'm being clear as to what I'm talking about. If something goes wrong I will be back for more help. From what I can tell at this point I am now wishing I would have had IMAP all along because of this syncing business.

I may not be completely understanding, but I think this is what I was doing with my POP3 account between my two computers. I'd copy the entire Windows Live Mail folder to USB and transfer it to the other computer in the way that you have described. Under the IMAP account I understood that you couldn't just copy the folders from POP3 to it. And I tried it and it didn't work. But not that I have re-created new folders in the IMAP account and then just copied the messages from the old account folders to those new ones, it seems to have worked great unless there's something that I just haven't run into yet.

    Hi welcome to 10 forum.
Did you try setting your mail up in the Windows 10 Mail App.
As once you have it should open and work ok in that,
I have my MSN, Gmail, Yahoo and AOL all set up in there and they work ok
Also once you get used to 10 you wont want to go back to any other OS
I checked out the new Mail app in Windows 10 and it may not be as bad as I originally thought. I think if I HAD to, I could live with it. In the meantime I did take Kbird's advice and switched my POP3 WLM to IMAP and though it was initially a lot of work. had I known how nice it would be I would have done so a long time ago.

Just wanted you to know that because of your post I gave the new Mail app another chance and I could go to it if I have to. Thanks for the push!

Providing they don't disappear when the account syncs then you should be fine. You could also create the account under the Windows Mail app to see if the same folders & mails therein download/sync.
I hope you recreated the account with imap settings rather than just changing the sever to imap.

Actually, a guy from my ISP connected remotely with my desktop and he created the account. i don't feel completely confident that he knew what he was doing, after the fact, so I don't know about imap settings. I just looked and my
    incoming server is pop.kadokatelco.com and
    outgoing: smtp.kadokatelco.com,
    incoming mail server IMAP.
Root folder path: C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail
Before it was not checked for the outgoing mail server to require authentication and now it is.

I have WLM on both computers, same email address, etc. If I change the account on that computer to imap with the settings given above, will that account automatically sync with what I have on this computer?

It appears he just set up the account for imap but added the server details as pop not imap.
If you feel unsure just set up a new account in Windows Live Mail by selecting imap & under the incoming settings use imap.kadokatelco.com & keeping the same smtp server settings as you posted incl SSL if it's been selected. You could try just changing the pop part of the server to imap if the server is set to imap as from your post it appears it is but has pop settings. Personally I think support didn't know what they were doing so setting up a new account while keeping the old will allow you to assure yourself the new account is working fine & if it is then you can delete the original account.

Normally an Incoming IMAP Server would be something like ....... imap.kadokatelco.com but that maybe just the way your ISP does it?

the ports on the Advanced Tab for Imap are usually 993 or 587 outgoing and 143 incoming

If you have Folders you are using IMAP AFAIK , as POP does not allow custom Folders,
POP3 accounts only Support the standard Folders , like Inbox,Deleted,Junk,Sent and Drafts maybe? been a while since I used POP3 , not since I was on Dialup , many years ago.

In WLM , In the properties for the Account (RC>Properties) if you are using IMAP there will be an IMAP TAB , TAB no#5 on my computers .

you should also have and option on IMAP Accounts to "Download all Folders" for the Account (sync) if you RC on the Account , and also be able to Hide or Show Folders.

In WLM you need to setup a NEW Account as the imap Type , at least with Hotmail and Outlook accounts you cannot swap them to IMAP, but you can leave them enabled and setup th eIMAP account and make sure it it working correctly before deleting the Old Account.

I just called my ISP and asked them about this and he said that is just the name of their server and we are not required to change it so I have to assume at this point that everything is ok. He said as long as I set up the account on my other computer the same way, the accounts will sync.
