How can I disable Edge from opening .pdf files?

    Handling of a link like that seems different.
    IE can't open pdf's so that -> the pdf being downloaded and opened in Sumatra (my default).
    Waterfox and Firefox can, so the pdf opens in them, as it does in Edge as you say.

    Download the document as a pdf, then open it- I guess it will open in your default program.

    My point is, this is still an issue and should not be marked closed.

    In Firefox you can change provided settings so the link opens in the app of your choice.

    You are correct, I can R-Click the link, save as, then open it and it will open in the set default app.

    Cortana/Windows search re-writes links so they are opened in Edge instead of your default browser. I wonder if something similar is going on here. I also wonder if the method used by edge deflector could be modified to make edge open pdf's in the app I set as default.

    I like Edge, I use it for forums like these and I like the way Cortana works though I'm not signed in. I use other browsers too, for other things.

    The thread has been marked solved by the original poster as they are content with the information given, we do not close thread to allow further information or solutions to be added. Anyone who has a valid reason to ask a similar question are free to create a new thread, they can reference the original if they wish.

    We have used this system for many years and will not change it without a good reason
