Followed these and my Settings for Mail is completely blank and yet gmail updates after about 10 minutes. Not happy!
Have you made sure you have got the latest updates installed also should load straight away or could be your AV slowing it down I use Defender and that seems to let it through ok

Windows mail app is not working well and may require lots of time to fix if even possible. I have lots of old emails in one of my accounts (over 55000) and this may be one of the problems. I cannot even get my email source portal (Comcast) to open 4 month old emails and I have emails from 2008. I tried Thunderbird and it works GREAT! In 4 hours (or less), I had all my emails and even the earliest ones open almost immediately. Why try anything else.

(From TV) Thunderbirds are Go! (Windows Mail, not so)

Just curious, is this thread about Windows Store "Mail and Calendar" app? I have tried it a couple times and haven't been successful in getting it to work. Maybe this might be why?

I replaced WLM that had been used since early in W7, with W10 Mail and Calendar. WLM had begun having issues with emails from social media platforms in that it would lock up and require rebooting to get the system back. W10 was slow to perform even things like moving an e-mail to another folder. Mail also couldn’t print e-mails either. A M$ support thread that ran for four years indicated that M$ was not going to do anything. Finally gave up on both apps. and installed Thunderbird. No issues with speed, nor e-mails trashing things.

    mbratch,
It might take some time, but please post back if you have found a solution.
    If yes, which solution ?
If no, do you go back to T-bird and chose something else ?
It's been about 4 years now. Although they seemed to have fixed some other oddities, Windows 10 mail still has a few quirks. It seems to be faster. But in the last couple of days, it stopped being able to retrieve my gmail. It would try syncing for a long time, and then finally say "sync failed" without explanation. I had to delete the account and re-add it, without changing any of the settings, and then that got it working again.

I have tried other email clients. Thunderbird seems to be the best alternative in terms of features. The UI is a bit antiquated, but it's my backup whenever Windows 10 Mail misbehaves.

Not sure why this works but I deleted my Gmail account from the app and now it runs instantaneously!
