Edge icon blank in taskbar
Any way to fix this easily please?
Thanks
Think this is actually part of a wider issue as my desktop shortcuts for images are no longer showing a preview either ...
Ideas or time for a re-install?
An old post indeed...Muranb's 2nd post may be associated with potential User Profile corruption.
However, as for the 1st post as it relates to the Edge Icon...
I recently had this issue with the Edge browser icon pinned to the Taskbar looking like a blank white page. It turned out to be a missing "Edge Profile icon" file which is supposed to be located here:"%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default" with file name: "Edge Profile.ico"
SOLUTION:
I simply needed to copy this file from another Windows 10 system of mine, and after pinning Edge to the taskbar, the icon no longer turned to a blank white page after opening the browser.
Likely Cause:
I decided to reimage my computer from scratch, and one of the things I did was use the backup script from here:
How to Backup and Restore Quick Access Pinned Folders in Windows 10
After running the restore, that's when I noticed the icon had turned into a blank white page after opening the browser to configure my settings.
This was obviously a fluke as I've had success with this method on other systems. A COPY/PASTE was a simple solution to a confusing problem.
For those that like software versions:
- Microsoft Edge v95.0
- Windows 10 Pro for Workstations v21H1
