    Hi all,
I have set up another e-mail account. Yahoo and that will not do anything. outlook tells me all is set up OK, but when I click on the inbox absolutely nothing happens. it will not get or send any mail.
so I have given up on this and will be using WLM until it will not work anymore
Thanks to all who tried to help

    Alternative to the connector method

    Okay, try this...
Delete your hotmail.com account from Outlook.
    Restart Outlook.
File > Account settings > Account settings > New >
choose 'E-mail Account' next > choose 'Manually configure server settings...' next >
choose 'Internet E-mail' next > enter your hotmail.com details
    in account type choose IMAP
    incoming server: imap-mail.outlook.com
    outgoing server: smtp-mail.outlook.com
your username needs to be your full email address I believe
    > more settings
    under the outging server tab
tick 'my outgoing server requires authentication' you can use either 'use the same as my incoming server' or 'log on using' and enter your details again. Do not tick the SPA box.
    under advanced tab
    incoming server 993
    encryption SSL
    outgoing server 587
    encryption TLS
    OK
untick test account > next > finish
    close and restart Outlook

you may get a few errors pop up while it all syncs but once settled it should be fine, and stay on-line. :)

I wonder, did you use the 'Outlook connector' from Microsoft when setting up Outlook for your Hotmail account
For the record the Outlook Connector is not necessary in Outlook 2013 (and the new Outlook 2016). Outlook.com/Hotmail accounts are supported directly using the EAS protocol (Exchange Active Sync). I have Outlook 2013 with three outlook.com accounts using EAS and one Gmail account using IMAP and all work properly. It's not clear why the OP was having trouble.

Regarding Windows Live Mail (WLM) the DeltaSync protocol works very well for Outlook.com/hotmail accounts, however Microsoft is going to disable DeltaSync. When that happens accounts in WLM will have to be reconfigured using IMAP and in my experience outlook.com accounts work poorly using IMAP. For folks who don't like using a browser either Outlook 2013/2016 or eM Client are the way to go since they support EAS.

    Hi,
I was messing around with windows mail and set up all 3 accounts without a problem.
it is working well and I think I stick with it. since it comes with windows 10, I think it will be supported by MS for a while.
