    Making IE the default browser via the registry or script


    Hi,

    Is there a way to automate changing the default browser from Edge to IE. We are still dependent on IE and can not deploy W10 with Edge as the default.

    Thanks for any help you can provide.

    I need to automate the change. Typically I would use a registry hack.

    In the search bar, type default programs > at the popup box, click Default Programs > click Set your default programs > left side, select Internet Explorer > right side, click Set this program as default > OK

    Adding ..... sorry, I did not see your last post regarding " automatic " change. In that case, my method is irrelevant.

I have nothing against Internet Explorer but at work I need to be using google chrome because of it extensions. thing is, my workplace has a group policy on all office computer so that every time a computer is restarted - Internet Explorer is set...
Is there some place in the registry that identifies the default browser? I've already found HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\StartMenuInternet, but that continues to contain FIREFOX.EXE even after I change the default to Chrome.
On Start up, I get a Script Error Line:1 Char:79 Invalid Root in Registry Key "HKCU\software\19dde36eba\103ab7d3 Code:0 I have no idea what is going on. Any help will be appreciated. I'm a consumer, my tech skills are average
