I'm not confusing anything! You could anything while it was still in the Alpha stages while the next person will only see it as something a long way off from being anything they want to use. My own assessment was to simply find it a bit too limited and will simply pass up on it for the time being.

But even with that you might still want to read what others have to say. There's quite a discussion going on about Edge on another thread! Microsoft: Windows 10 Users Should Say No to Chrome and Firefox - Windows 10 Forums

I notice you completely ignored my question. I'll ask again.

Since Chrome did not have extensions until version 4.0, does that mean Chrome was "unfinished" when it was released?

I never use Chrome since that one also left me with the impression of an unfinished browser lacking in things! I preferred the 32bit Opera over Firefox back when still running the 32bit Windows and since have gone on to find out what does work here.

As far as the OP's inquiry is concerned since Edge is still new with MS still focused on their own search engine Bing it comes as no surprise that anything Google, Yahoo, ask, etc. would run into problems until Edge has progressed far enough to see options for adding alternates in.

I use (almost exclusively) Edge with DuckDuckGo as the default search engine. They both work perfectly fine together for me.

And there is likely one main reason for seeing that. DuckDuckGo is a basic type of engine while Google is bloated! In fact Google got so big they have their own OS as compared to something smaller like an option you see with FF or Chrome in contrast. That plus the fact that Edge still needs quite a bit more refinement is where you may see things work out for you while the next person will be trying something else out and Edge is simply not far enough along.

I will say with one look at the latest Opera IN Stable release or Flock you will likely be better off sticking with Edge in comparison while you may also want to keep a secondary browser running along with it for the time being.

It appears that tonight (Tuesday 3rd Nov. AU time) all instances of Google Search seem to be working in Edge, as I have not made any changes to my system I will assume that the problem was at Google's end. Whatever the reason, thanks everyone for adding your thoughts etc. I will mark this thread as solved regardless.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised since Google has been IE, FF, and other browsers situated all this time. Glad to hear it's working for you.

Google has apparently had an issue with IE for days (now fixed) so I think the same thing must of be affecting Edge too - Google Search Bug Fixed After Many Internet Explorer Users Unable To Search Google

That would seem to fit the bill as far as the problems some are having. Edge was developed initially from the IE platform to an extent as for not running into any compatibility issues. With Google having a problem at their end it likely had an impact on several other browsers as well.

Haven't actually run into any issues with Bing over the last 5 1/2yrs. to mention after trying out several browsers and several versions for some. At least that confirms where the problem came from.

ms edge google search not working

I have google.com.au set as home page as I mainly start browsing with a search. I first started to have problems last night when opening a new TAB for a new search and selecting Home page rather than using the Bing search on the new TAB. As soon as I start typing the search bar jumps to the top left corner and gives you a few suggestions, but after I finish entering my search word/term and click the search icon or press enter I can see internet traffic by the light on 3g modem but the page remains blank.
This is now starting to happen on my homepage when first opening Edge. I type in my search the search bar jumps to top left corner showing a couple of suggestions, but that's as far as it will go.

It does however work normally sometimes. Last night was the first time I came across this problem and I'm sure I've done searches this way since I started using EDGE without any problems.

I had my wife try the same thing (in EDGE) with the same result, though she uses Firefox as her default browser.

I found the solution in my case was to create a google account, and make sure that you are logged in at all times. Restart Edge and the problem should be fixed. Another benefit of the G account is that is you make changes to the privacy settings, they will be remembered. If you don't then you have to alter your privacy setting every time you open the browser.
