Chrome's extensions menu will soon have tabs. The new layout can already be enabled in the Canary version (although it doesn't show installed extensions or permissions yet).

It will be something similar to the side panel.

It will soon be possible to read articles in the Chrome Side panel while browsing other websites in the main window:

When you visit a website where "Reader mode" is available, you just have to open the Side panel and click on the "Reader Mode" tab:

If you switch to another tab with another article and you want to see it in the Side panel, you have to close it and reopen it (I switched tabs using the keyboard):

Maybe in the future it will not be necessary to close and reopen the panel, Chromium developers could add a button to reload the "Reader Mode" tab of the Side panel or something like that.

This new feature is currently available in Chrome Canary.
