I can understand wanting to modernize the UI but why make the font so large and bold? It looks like it's been designed for old people who have poor eyesight! Google? There's not even one setting to customize the font type or size to my liking. If the font size could be adjusted I'd be happy, I'm ok with the rest of UI revamp.
Hit the cog and select Display Density. You have 3 choices. Default, Comfortable, and Compact. I can live with compact.

All of the Google forums are talking about this extension: Gmail Classic Theme by Agile Inbox - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...heppfl/related

I've just installed it, it appears to retain a lot of Googles new UI mainly restoring the font size to classic Gmail size. This looks good!

My font size and type looks perfectly normal. Not oversized or anything.

I know but is it possible to set it to open in a new tab automatically ? In Firefox this can be done.
